The Movie Influence of Cinderella on Young Children’s Learning

The topic I chose to discuss is a visual art that is made for young children titled Cinderella. The story of Cinderella is one children’s story that has been around for many generations. The story of Cinderella is unique because it can be told in many different art forms such as storybooks, a movie, theater arts, and many more. However, for this paper I am focusing on the movie version of Cinderella.
A brief synopsis of this story is about a girl named Cinderella who has lost her father and moves in with her step mother and step sister. According to Galley, “Cinderella is a woman who has suffered immensely and has the courage to stand up for what she believes. Her values of forgiveness and kindness will not be swayed even in bad times. She embraces high standards even while imprisoned. She was an outcast to her sisters and still found it in her soul to understand the bigger picture of life. Cinderella knew that tearing down others would never bring her happiness. Instead she learned to understand, not judge, and to allow courage and forgiveness to prevail (Galley).”
One of the negative messages is that “Step-children shouldn’t be treated like real members of the family. Cinderella was treated horrifically by her stepmother and step sisters simply because she wasn’t a blood relative. Another negative message is a fairy godmother will come and give you nice things. While the idea of a fairy godmother is great and all, life isn’t easy (D’Alusio).”
Another negative message is that this movie focuses on a princess which is ideal for young girls but not so much for young boys. With that being said it may be harder to get the positive message across to young boys because the entire story is geared more towards young girl audiences. Just as Cinderella did, she was always gracious, kind and patience; even though the stepmother and the sisters are evil, she patiently tolerates their treatment. At the same time, she doesn’t give up or let their treatment be a setback in her path.
Encouraging children to be confident and express their creativity by allowing them to do activities that might push them forward such as trying something new, focusing on the process and not the product can become beneficial to their overall education. Also, courage is not just about pushing against your own edges. It can also focus on helping push them against people who might steer them off track of their artistic development. According to D’Alusio “Cinderella's able to keep dreaming because she believes in herself and her self-worth. She remembers her loving parents and knows she is more than the designated housemaid. Despite her tough circumstances and her difficult stepfamily, she still chooses to be kind and brave, to persevere and remain steadfast in trying to change and take charge of her life.” Boosting young children’s self-esteem so they know that they can be creative and accomplish
