Evolution of Sculpture with the Advancement of Technology
The advancement in technology has significantly influenced sculpture designs and processes over the years. Many people often use traditional methods of sculpting. This paper examines recent technological developments in sculpting processes. In general, sculptors use four basic techniques to remove or add material to give shape to their sculpture. These basic techniques involve carving, casting, modelling and assembling. Carving involves cutting away a bulk material of stone, wood, and any hard material to give shape. In casting, material that is going to be used to make sculpture usually metal is melted down and poured into a mould. After filling the mould, it is allowed to cool and thereby

This make a sculptor to do his work more efficiently and complete in less span of time.
Computers and micro-electronics also have brought advances in the sculpture making process. Because of improvement in micro-electronics cordless variable speed rotatory tools, burrs, cutters, carbide saws at low cost, cheap industrial diamonds, and tooling are available to the sculptor today. Sculptors owe to improvement in micro-electronics for these tools to make their complex work easy and more advanced. Next, comes welding technology which also has benefited sculptures. Welding technology has improved mostly from the silicon revolution. Technologies like plasma cutting, inexpensive and durable gas metal arc welding, also known as MIG and gas tungsten arc welding (TIG). The sculptor has more advantage with the low power consuming plasma cutters as it gives them the ability to cut almost any metal easily, and safely quickly, with only average skills and technical knowledge. Such new technologies have given the sculptor new talent that is just now being
Before the modern era sculpture was monumental; it had an unspoken meaning. Sculptures of this time were commissioned to commemorate a person or an event. They were eternal, designed to last and make people remember a legacy. When the modern era arrived there came a shift, the concept of sculpture became broader. They were still permanent but no longer site specific or placed of a pedestal; they became nomadic. Flash forward to the postmodern era and sculpture is the space it inhabits, as the site changes so does the meaning. They convey the human experience and become something broader than just a monument as Krauss puts it the realm of sculpture has become “infinitely malleable ”.

According to Pickwelder, “This type of welding is used in welding wide varieties of metals and alloys such as magnesium, steel, stainless steel, nickel, copper, aluminum, bronze and many other nonferrous metals” (James). MIG can be used with a number of different metals making it very diverse. This is a good quality as it can bond to any metal with the right settings and welding wire. According to JobsiteUS, “A range of material thicknesses can be welded from thin gauge sheet metal right up to heavier structural plates” (Peter Apalais). MIG welding can weld through all different metals and their thicknesses. This is good for production because this process can do both while some processes can only weld thin or thick metal. According to Coastal Media Brand, “Capable for a variety of applications, including – trailer hitches, auto body repair and restoration, farm/ranch equipment, household projects, repairing wheel barrows, bicycles, etc” (Coastalmedia843) The multivariate MIG has so many possibilities that can be used for nearly anything that involves repair work or production. It is good for commercial use and even for your home. This shows the extent that MIG welding can go up to, and the list goes on. All in all Gas Metal Arc Welding is the best process that can be used for an expansive amount of uses for anything consumer grade and
Welding started back in the medieval days. But there was only one welding process, and it was called forge welding. Forge welding is the use of heating metal, shaping it (by pounding it with a hammer), then cooling it. People back then had to go to their local black smith go get things fixed. Some tasks required black smiths to be extremely precise, and have an even level of thickness throughout the piece of metal that they are foraging.
Two main devices used in Egyptian art from the fourth dynasty, that also help classify it, are a strive for naturalism and the use of sculpture in the round. In addition to the large burial monuments being built, portraiture became quite popular at this time in history. Paintings featuring humans used their own form of "sculpture in the round" by painting in ...
Plastic Art – The definition of plastic art is, “Art forms that involve modeling or molding, such as sculpture and ceramics, or art involving the representation of solid objects with three-dimensional effect.” For this report, plastic art will be represented in this way. Impression – An impression in terms of art making and in this report, is the act of creating a mold or relief by pressing the medium into the subject. For this study, impressions will be used during the plastic arts and mixed media phase of the investigation. Ribbon Cutter – A ribbon cutter is a tool used in sculpting and ceramics to cut clay or other materials.
Sculptures are one of the earliest forms of art, right next to its 2-dimensional “cousin”, drawings. Two specific sculptures that take place in B.C. era are “Memi&Sabu” and “Statue of Gudea”. When comparing the two, one will find very few similarities. One of those similarities is the obvious: they are of actual people who once lived in the times they were carved. If looked closely, it can be notifiable that the blocky style the people were carved in is similar as well.
Some techniques of welding started a thousand years ago, it was not till 1800 modern welding started (“Welders”173). Welding had its major uproar in the start of World War I (“Welding and the Society”). In the beginning there was a very high demand for all metal ships, some of the first tanks, and planes. Col. Scott Ritchie said, “welding has done much to keep us above and ahead of the enemy” (“Welding and the Society”). Welding as played an important part in modern wars for America from from sea to air and the land between. On the other hand welding goes back to the year of 1877 resistance welding was first created (“Welders and Welding Technicians” 961). Followed by arc welding in 1889, which is the most used welding today, then came thermite welding in 1900 (“Welders and Welding Technicians” 961). As of today, there is twelve different types of welding used in everyday life ("AWS Revises Major Qualification Standard"). This includes oxyfuel gas welding, shielded metal arc welding, gas tungsten arc welding, submerged arc welding, laser beam welding, gas metal arc welding, flux cored arc welding, plasma arc welding, electroslag welding, electrogas welding, electron beam welding and arc stud welding ("AWS Revises Major Qualification
scientific experiments (Go welding: history of welding 1). Conventional welding is most easily explained as arc welding processes. Some arc welding processes are TIG welding, Stick Welding(SMAW), and MIG welding. TIG stands for Tungsten Inert Gas welding this means that using tungsten as a electrode and an inert gas, which is usually argon, the weld is produced by creating an arc between the piece being welded and the tungsten electrode. SMAW or stick welding utilizes a stick electrode held in a clamp surrounded by a powdered substance to weld. Mig welding uses a machine that holds a wire feeder within it, the wire feeder feeds the wire electrode through a tube to a gun that slowly sends out the wire as well as a steady flow of inert gas. These and other processes classified as conventional welding processes are the best processes for welding jobs because they are more cost effective, more...

Welding is a very important tool used in our daily lives. Welding is the process of joining two metal pieces together by applying heat. A filler helps to make the joint. Everything we use from trucks to houses have some type of welding in them. There are many types of welding careers to choose from. There is a great demand for welders today. My project was to build a table and candelabra out of metal. Most of the metal I gathered came from junk yards and had to be cleaned of rust.
Marxist criticism concerns itself with class differences and the modes of production that produce oppression. Class conflict will be reflected in different forms of art because the marxist school believes that everything in a society is based on the current modes of production. A change to the mode of production will bring change to politics, law, philosophy, religion, and art. Max Horkheimer, Theodor W. Adorno and Walter Benjamin are three of the most notable critics of Marxism. They write about the production of cultural subject in capitalist societies, agreeing that reproduction of art has drastically changed due to mechanization. Horkheimer and Adorno’s The Culture Industry: Enlightenment as Mass Deception and Benjamin’s The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction are two texts that to depict how technology, the modes of production, have allowed the mechanical reproduction of works of art to change our culture society. Horkheimer and Adorno evolve from the works of Benjamin to to create the idea of the business ideology being formed from this mass production and consumption.
Welding is an art, science, and high paying career all in one. Welding is the most effective way to join two pieces of metal, it is the only way to join them so they act as one. Numerous things in our daily lives has been welded from coffeepots to skyscrapers. Welding can be done almost anywhere outdoors, indoors, underwater, and even space (“Welding Basics”). It is practically

Human’s have always struggled to express themselves. Art, is considered by many to be the ultimate form of human expression. Many assume that art has a definition, but this is not the case. Art, it can be said, is “in the eye of the beholder.” This simply means that what you consider art, someone else would not. Art is part of a person’s internal emotions, which signifies why different people see art as different things. Every type of culture and era presents distinctive and unique characteristics. Different cultures all have different views of what art can, and would be, causing art itself to be universally renowned throughout the world.
