The advances in technology recently has been extraordinary and is continuously affecting how we interact socially in person and through devices. Physical devices such as mobile phones, allow us easier access to the internet, which provides us with digital technology such as social media and online shopping sites that socially connect us on a different level.

Since the rise of the mobile devices, digital networks have transformed almost every aspect of modern life into a social experience. The world around us has been constructed by the way we engage and how we interact socially on a daily basis . Interactionist perspectives of Max Weber theorised that "consequently, everything we do together and with who we associate with, influences our behaviours ."

Massive technological advances occurred during the last half of the 20th Century but technology in media communication, network and devices have progressed so fast since then. The consumption of goods is placed at the centre of our everyday lives and how it relates to our individual and group identities, in our culture and traditions and the implications of our consumer lifestyles is recognised .
