Race affects people in many different ways ways. Some are positive, some are negative. One of these ways is how fairly one is treated. Race can affect the opportunities that someone is given. In the United States a person's race affect how fairly they are treated. This is shown in Raisin in the Sun, "Why is the NYPD after me?", and "Class, Race, and Housing segregation.

First, Raisin in the Sun shows how race can affect fairness. In this book the Younger family is faced with the stress of money and how they are going to use it. One of the things they decide to put money toward is a new house in Clybourne Park which is an all white neighborhood. After putting a down payment on the house, a man from the welcoming committee comes and brings them an offer to buy the house from them to keep the neighborhood all white. He has had many unnecessary encounters with the police just because of his race. He would be walking down the street and be stopped and searched by the NYPD. "In the spring of 2008, NYPD officers stopped and frisked me, again. And for no apparent reason." He would not have been stopped numerous amount of time if he wasn't black. He is being stereotyped and treated unfairly just because of his race.

Lastly, "Class, Race and Housing Segregation" shows how race affects how fairly someone is treated. Lisa Lincoln, a Japanese american, is searching for an apartment to rent for her and her boyfriend, who is African american. When she went alone she was told the apartment was open but when her boyfriend came along they said something else. "Lincoln was told the apartment was available. When she showed up with her boyfriend... who is black, they were told someone was already holding a deposit on the place."
