Anne Frank is a Jewish child that went into hiding in an Annex when World War 2 was going on. She wrote a diary of her experience in the Annex which was left when she was captured by the Nazi’s. It was later found by her father when he went there after realizing his whole family died in concentration camp. Otto Frank was her father, while they were in hiding he showed the biggest examples of courage, compassion, and sacrifice in every way possible. Mr. Frank was the father of two daughters with a wife that he loved, he went into hiding on July 6, 1942, where they would spend the next two years in hiding with another family and a dentist. Mr. Frank is Compassion is sympathetic pity and concern for the sufferings or misfortunes of others. Frank cared more for his family than himself and it shows in the play, the diary, and the movie. Otto Frank shows more compassion, sacrifice, and courage than anyone in the annex, he shows all of these qualities because no matter what situation he is in he has good character. If I was in this situation I couldn’t tell you if I would act the same, to tell the truth. All of this is situational, if you are not in the situation it is hard to answer. I will guarantee you that most of the people who answered this question said yes because your belief is different from your actions, you can believe that you can do all of this but when you’re in the situation things become more serious you start thinking more on panic and will I survive and stuff like that because then you are actually in the situation. So, yes I think I will be able to act the same as Mr. Frank, but I know I will not know until I am in the same position as Mr.
The definition of compassion: sympathetic pity and concern for the sufferings or misfortunes of others. As this definition shows compassion shows concern for other that every person would love to have. In The Chosen written by Chaim Potok, Mr. Potok really presents compassion in his book. Not only does he display compassion in one of his character but in every single one he gives them compassion that is expressed in different ways. He goes into detail example of compassion with each of his characters and really emphasizes the true meaning of compassion. ... the middle of the tattered city sits Mr. Frank, reading Anne’s diary. He is the only one who survived after being sent to a concentration camp. Wind was blowing in the pages he was barely holding. Determination settled in his face as a thought of publishing the diary to let everyone know the life of being drowned in silence, the life of perpetual fear. Anne Frank may be gone, but her legacy is left behind. Although everyone else died in different concentration camps they were sent to, Mr. Frank organized the hiding to the best of his ability. Mr. Frank demonstrated his great leadership qualities by thinking of others before himself, keeping a constructive and encouraging attitude, and making hard decisions. The play would not have been possible without Mr. Frank’s effort in getting Anne’s diary published. Through thick and thin, Mr. Frank sewed everything together.
After getting married Otto and Edith Frank settled down in Frankfurt, Germany. They’d soon have their two children. Margrot in 1926, and Anne Frank three years later. In his writing, Otto Frank remembers that the relationship between Anne and her mother was “… not particularly good understanding …” Anne Frank says in her diary, “I need my mother to set a good example … but in most matters she’s an example of what not to do.”
Three weeks before they were found Anne wrote in her diary: “Day and night during every waking hour, I do nothing but ask myself have you given him enough chance to be alone? Have you been spending too much time upstairs? Do you talk about serious subjects he’s not yet ready to talk about...?” (Frank 212) They were discovered after two years of hiding and were deported to concentration camps. Her father is the only one of the eight people to survive in the concentration camps. She is an inspiration to many people around the world to have gone through all that at such a young age. Through everything she went through she had kept a diary. Anne Frank had a crazy, but scary childhood, but a good family by her side every step of the way, she died at a young age, and kept a diary which was published into a book.

The time period and setting of this book is World War II and during the Holocaust. It is in 1942 through 1944, and in Amsterdam, Holland. This influential play has the story about eight Jews going into hiding in the dreaded time of the Holocaust, and giving it all their will and strength to survive and get through the 1940s. D-Day is an important event for these Jewish fellows, and it gave a lot of meaning to them. These Jews went through a lot of stress and mixed emotions. Anne says, “In spite of everything, I still believe that people are really good at heart” (Goodrich and Hackett 122). This quote shows the way that Anne can extract all of the bad in people and just see the good in people, even when they might be very notorious. D-Day gave these innocent Jewish members of the Annex a sense of hope and faith in these Allies to fight through German defenses to come rescue and save the Jews. Not only did D-Day give them hope and faith, but it also gave them a sense of safety and comfort each time the Allies get one step closer to aid.
In the story On Compassion, the author, Ascher, explains how no one is born with compassion and must be taught it. A homeless, black man was staring at a women’s baby in the stroller and she offered him a dollar. At first he was hesitant to take it, but eventually did. Later another man walks into an overpriced coffee shop in which the store owner handed him a bag with food. Ascher makes the readers question whether these were acts of fear, pity, or just simply out of the good of heart.

Compassion is very different from courage. Compassion means when you care for people.it also means your caring for people that don’t deserve it. Mr. Frank is caring for the Van Daan’s and gave them a place to hide. He let them live in the Secret Annex with them.
