American author, F. Scott Fitzgerald, in the conclusion of his infamous novel, The Great Gatsby, illustrates how Nick was immensely affected by the life of his only friend, Gatsby. Nick Carraway, the narrator, was a person similarly like a guardian towards Gatsby. F. Scott Fitzgerald uses symbolism and language to convey Nick’s guardian-like attitude toward Gatsby. Fitzgerald begins with the disillusion Nick has for Gatsby's future by describing the dreary feeling he imagines in Gatsby. “He had come a long way to this blue lawn, and his dream must have seemed so close that he could hardly fail to grasp it” (180). Nick takes a look at Gatsby's shadow like a guardian by observing what Gatsby had done to get to his fantasy. Fitzgerald
