FDR was plagued with many challenges, yet he handled each with impressive courage. Roosevelt’s career was set during a time where life did not appear to be going great for anyone. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, Roosevelt prepared himself for another long battle by declaring war on Japan and thus entering America into World War II (Kennedy 15). Just as Roosevelt had finally completed his work to reassemble America in the face of the Great Depression, it appeared that another challenge was waiting for him. This time, it was a war. Instead of shrinking away in fear and handling Pearl Harbor with cowardice, he stood strong. He entered America into World War II fully aware of how difficult it would be to fight having just come out of a serious economic rut. Roosevelt led with a seemingly fearless approach. He probed his people to do the same. Roosevelt’s courage can also seen through how he dealt with his polio. Even though FDR felt terrible, he hid his pain behind a strong exterior. He grinned and made jokes as well as denied anyone the right to feel pity toward him (Marrin 66). FDR continued to smile through discomfort, providing the citizens of the nation with someone to have hope in and depend on. Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s Pearl Harbor Address to the Nation was successful because he declared war on Japan without instilling too much fear on the nation. Entering a war can put thoughts of panic or fear into people’s minds, but the President wanted the nation to know that measures needed to be taken to ensure safety. He let the nation know that a war would be declared because the attack on Pearl Harbor was deliberate, it caused severe damage, and it put our nation in grave danger. The President made his speech successful by using a combination of logic and emotions to persuade his audience. Through FDR’s speech, he wanted to make it clear on why we were entering the war, and he wanted to give our nation a feeling of hope in a time when the country was in jeopardy.

The Panama Canal now saves ships thousands of miles, and National Parks inspire people to conserve the resources of this earth. His social justice policies keep businesses honest and force them to be fair. But like all humans he had flaws. One of his major weaknesses was he thought anyone who did not agree with him was un-American, and during World War One was suspicious of German Americans. While on state Legislature, he tried to fire a judge based on corruption because he reached a verdict Roosevelt did not agree with. But Roosevelt’s great intelligence, strength, and curiosity outweighed his flaws, and it is not surprise he is considered as one of America’s greatest presidents.
World War II was an exceptional war for the United States. The United States emerged from the war as a world superpower and protector of all other nations. There were many reasons why the United States entered World War II, however President Franklin Roosevelt was in some way directly connected to every reason. Roosevelt wanted to enter World War II as soon as it started for political and economic needs. However, the American people did not want to enter in another war, such as World War I, that costs so many lives and money. Therefore, Roosevelt schemed a plan to enter the United States into World War II that would change the minds of the American people, including the direct aiding of Great Britain, the German bombing of a United States warship, and the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor.

Only then did the unemployment rate drastically decrease because instead of more people needing jobs, more people were needed for jobs that would help manufacture weapons for Great Britain and eventually the US. However, he expanded the federal government, and especially the executive branch, so that it could help the American people in the decades to come. He set a precedent and established a legacy that, if elected politicians remember to serve the people, will live on. But no one looks back to notice Roosevelt to be the president who signed an executive order to condemn, and relocate all Japanese Americans living along the West Coast to internment camps. Roosevelt signed the Japanese Americans off to be personally humiliated and in some cases, to die. During this time of World War II the Japanese Americans were not protected when they were put into the internment camps, and they were left to fight against the racial discrimination that fell upon them that caused all their pain and suffering.

Fortunately, the bullet struck his case for his glasses and the copy of his speech, he refused to go to the hospital until he was done giving an 80 minute speech. Theodore Roosevelt was ultimately known for his progressive reforms and his foreign policies; he adopted the idea that foreign policy is a main priority and that shifts and changes in industry and foreign trade will lead to social and political changes within the nation. With this idea, it is significant to understand that T. Roosevelt believed that if American citizens abuse focus on our industry, the nation and government will collapse and will not be benefitting in terms of welfare and foreign relations.
