Everyone has a special event that determines our life journey. This event can give us identity, happiness or even pain and sadness. The special event that changed my life was deciding to play basketball because basketball helped me find peace, happiness and gave me identity. When I was ten years old my grandfather succumbed to cancer. His death created hatred inside of me. Hatred at God and the doctors that could not heal him, but basketball took all of that pain away. When i played basketball I was at peace with the world. I no longer felt sadness or anger. I would play in the back yard. The wind whisking around me made everything feel so calm and at ease. I could never seem to hear the other noise around me. Basketball seemed to block it all out. Playing basketball transported me to a care free universe. One...Two...Three. Your heart beats calmly. Times like those create the happiest times for me. Basketball brings a great deal of joy to my body. I relish in opening my gym bag. It runs through my veins and I cannot live without it. For a long time I did not know who I was but one day, through a basketball camp, a coach helped me realize what my identity was. He helped me figure out that i am a child of God. All my uncles played basketball along with both of my Grandfathers.For a long time I thought that basketball had to be the only thing to define me but, it does not. This reminds me of something. R.
