During the late 1700s France was in a time of terror lurking in the corner was the guillotine. As chaos grew politicians turned to Napoleon Bonaparte a well known military leader who will change France and the world. Napoleon’s rule was from 1799-1815 during this time he would be an effective, and a good leader. Napoleon successfully reformed France’s government, and overall was a strong ruler.
Over Napoleon's rule he was able to reform the government. Napoleon put into place a code known as Napoleonic code; this code “embodied Enlightenment principles such as the equality of all citizens before the law, religious toleration, and the abolition of feudalism” (Ellis, Esler 231). This was a long lasting reform he made. Napoleon also improved the economy, he built roads and canals (good for trade), and encouraged industry. Since France was in a revolution, and it may not have been the safest time for the people. These reforms greatly benefited France. Not only did he improve the life of the countries people, Napoleon put a code in place that was much needed. This contributes to Napoleon’s great leadership. …show more content…

Napoleon held plebiscites to see if his country supported him; something he needed in order to be an effective ruler. In addition, his military background helped him. “Napoleon valued rapid movement, and made effective use of his large armies. He developed a new plan for each battle so opposing generals could never anticipate what he would do next” (Ellis, Esler 232). This strategy clearly worked as the French empire expanded. One of Napoleon’s first and many victorious battles was when he drove the British out of Toulon, a French port. He went on to win many more battles. This wraps up why Napoleon had the qualities of a good leader. They need to be effective in their army and they need to well liked by their people. Napoleon had all of theses qualities and
