Martin Charles Scorsese was born November 17, 1942 in New York City, New York. Living in New York inspired actually inspired the setting of many of his movies. Both of Martins parents worked as actors, his father was a clothes presser & actor, and his mother was a seamstress and an actress. He attended NYU’s University College of Arts and Science, where he earned a Bachelors degree in English. Martin was hampered by asthma as a child so he was not able to play sports, his parents would take him to see movies, this is when he realized his love for cinematography. Martin Scorsese had many favorite filmmakers but the most influential upon him were Satyajit Ray, Ingmar Bergman, Michelangeo Antonioni, and Federico Fellini. Black Narcissus was a film that greatly inspired Martin and he implemented many of their unique techniques into his filmmaking. …show more content…

Many of these movies are award-winning films such as, Taxi Driver, Goodfellas, Gangs of New York, The Departed and many more. Martin’s most recent film Wolf of Wall Street, based on a true story of the life of a crooked stockbroker Jordan Belfort played by Leonardo DiCaprio marked the fifth collaboration between the two. Martin and Dicaprio often work together in many crime/mobster films. This film was selected for many awards including Golden Globe for Best actor; it was also nominated for five Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay. In total, Martins films have received 70 major competitive acting award nominations
