Martin Luther King, Jr.: A Figure Who Changed Society
What if someone told you that you couldn't be friends with someone of a different race or that you couldn't sit where they sat. For example, as a young child, Martin Luther King dealt with segregation: "He never forgot this time when, at about age six, one of his white playmates announced that his parents would no longer allow him to play with King, because the children were now attending segregated schools" ("Martin Luther King, Jr."). This was the case for King and many innocent individuals in the twentieth century. Martin Luther King, Jr., a man of great successes, helped to conquer segregation in the South. Despite everything he went through, he continued to stay strong and never gave up. Ending segregation is something that many people feel strongly about and something that people have many different views about, but at the end of the day, the person who fought with passion is the person who should be standing up in front of a crowd of people. At times he may have been intimidated by the people who had negative opinions, but King never let it beat him down. It's safe to say that throughout the 1900s many people tried to make a change, but Martin Luther King was the person who tried so much and succeeded so often. Colleen Hoover states, "I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to wish for a perfect life. The things that knock you down in life are tests, forcing you to make a choice between giving in and remaining on the ground or wiping the dirt off and standing up even taller than you did before you were knocked down. I'm choosing to stand up taller. I'll probably get knocked down a few more times before this life is through with me, but I can guarantee you I'll never stay on the ground." This is Martin Luther King's story. He got pushed down, but he never stayed on the ground, he got right back up. All in all, King always persevered, making the world a better
