The studio was first created to show CBS that Ball and Arnaz could make “I Love Lucy” work with Arnaz playing her husband. They produced the pilot episode. Arnaz and Ball made themselves their own bosses of the production and would give the episodes to CBS instead of under the network or sponsored by them. CBS wanted Ball and Arnaz to work together in New York. Ball and Arnaz refused to do so. CBS was worried that because of the time difference they would not be able to do live viewing for the people at home. Ball and Arnaz cut their joint weekly salary from $5,000 to $4,000 allowing them to create a simple solution for the time difference problem, producing the show on film and dispense with kinescopes altogether. Desilu Production, later on, expanding by producing many hits. The growing business needed for space so they sold the first 180 episodes of “I Love Lucy” to CBS gaining them 5 million dollars. They then later bought RKO studio and their 14 acres. Even with their rising success with Desilu Productions, the couple split in 1960, 20 years after their marriage. Arnaz, later on, asked Ball to buy him out of Desilu Production, costing her 2.5 million dollars, which then allowed her to become the first woman CEO of a major television and movie production. The Andy Griffith Show and I love Lucy have been two of the most watched shows in the history of television aired on CBS. I Love Lucy was a scripted sitcom recorded in front of a live studio audience with multiple cameras to give it better comic energy. It took place in an apartment in New York and her husband was an upcoming Cuban American who sung in a band. Although this was a black and white film, Lucy and Ricardo had colorful personalities. Lucy was always dressed nicely and Ricardo was always in a suit or business like attire. The house was always spotless as she was a housewife and an excellent mother later on. Lucy had a way of getting into trouble but Ricky somehow managed to get them out. She also displayed some traits that women were stereotyped for such as not showing or looking your age, being careless with money, and other secretive things. Lucille Mulhall was born on October 21, 1885 in Oklahoma and died December 21, 1940 in Oklahoma when she got in a terrible vehicle accident. She is the first born child of Zach (1847-1931) and Mary Agnes Mulhall (1859-1931). Her sister’s name is Margaret Reed (1906-1925) and she was the last child born. She married her first husband in 1916 and his name was Martin Van Bergen. Lucille then divorced this man and married a man named Thomas Loyd Burnett (1871-1939). Singer/actress Lena Horne's primary occupation was nightclub entertaining, a profession she pursued successfully around the world for more than 60 years, from the 1930s to the 1990s. In conjunction with her club work, she also maintained a recording career that stretched from 1936 to 2000 and brought her three Grammys, including a Lifetime Achievement Award in 1989; she appeared in 16 feature films and several shorts between 1938 and 1978; she performed occasionally on Broadway, including in her own Tony-winning one-woman show, Lena Horne: The Lady and Her Music in 1981-1982; and she sang and acted on radio and television. Adding to the challenge of maintaining such a career was her position as an African-American facing discrimination personally and in her profession during a period of enormous social change in the U.S. Her first job in the 1930s was at the Cotton Club, where blacks could perform, but not be admitted as customers; by 1969, when she acted in the film Death of a Gunfighter, her character's marriage to a white man went unremarked in the script. Ethel Merman is described by PBS as the most successful musical comedy performer of her generation. Merman is known for contributing her loud and clear vocals to the Broadway stage and changing the way that people observed women on Broadway as well (PBS). Appearing and starring in several Broadway blockbusters, her acting career appeared to go through somewhat transitional phases to where she could act less and less like herself in character. Merman left her mark as an entertainer and her voice continues to be a spectacle.
She said, “It was not love at first sight… it took five minutes” (Ball 118). A little while after they met, Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball enjoyed a meal at the restaurant El Morocco. The night before, Desi had gotten a negative comment in the newspaper, distressing him and Lucille. They were talking about this problem when a photographer came by and took a picture of them. That night they talked about their differences and decided that they never were going to marry. Once the dinner was over and they had both gone back to their apartments, Lucille got a telegram from Desi. It said “just wanted to say I love you, goodnight and be good. I think that I’ll say I love you again, in fact I will say it. I love you love you love you love you” (Ball 106-108). So they eloped just a week later, on November 30, 1940. They stayed married for four years before getting a divorce because of a rocky marriage. But they got back together again, re-married and created Desilu Productions to launch their vaudeville act. Marilyn Monroe will always be the most iconic sex symbol of her time. She was able to face hardship in her life, not knowing her mother so well, and not knowing her father at all. She was able to come for rags to riches, and receive the fame, and fortune she dreamed of. However, her battle with depression, and addiction was a lost she will forever be known as an esteemed actress, a talented model, and a beautiful singer. Inspiring to women to be comfortable with themselves, and achieve goals that most women of her time couldn’t have without condemnation. She symbolizes the ambition that female should express. Marilyn Monroe lived a short life, but she was able to accomplishment some much. Being nominated twice for a Golden Globe, and has a star on the Hollywood walk of Fame.
The purpose of this case report is to identify the legal and ethical issues in the Martha Stewart case study. I will discuss these issues, compare Ms. Stewart’s actions against the ethical theories, draw conclusions to the lessons learned, and make recommendations to limit future outcomes.
Business has been a large part of my family, and has started to grow on me. My dad worked in sales for many years, and is now the President of a company in Staples. My mom started her own cleaning business, and now works for herself, as well as my uncle owns a golf course, and a pump and well business. My other uncle has his own handy man business, while one of my aunts operates a redimix and construction company . So I guess it could be said, business is kind of in by blood.
