Many different solo artists and groups have made a significant impact on the music industry. However, it is surprising that most of the performers who are very popular today have not established themselves enough to be labeled as the greatest of all time. The solo artist I believe that made the most significant impact on music and deserves the label of the greatest is Elvis Presley. The group that I believe is the greatest of all time is The Beatles. Elvis Presley is known as “The King” in the music industry and his achievements seem to represent this term well. Presley’s sits in #2 for the top-selling artist of all time, The Beatles hold the #1 spot (List 25, 2014). As a musician he holds more gold, platinum, and multiplatinum awards than any other artist in the industry (List 25, 2014). Elvis’ unique dance moves and style contributed to his popularity. Over 100 of Elvis’ songs were Pop Top 40 hits (About Entertainment, 2016). Between 1969-1977, he performed over 1,100 concerts (CNN, 2015). They seem to top most charts across the Internet. Although, their longevity as a group didn’t last long, the impact they have still to this day on the music industry is remarkable. They have more #1 albums (19) by any artist in the US and created the most #1 singles (20) in America than any other artist (About Entertainment, 2016). About Entertainment (2016) also named them the best selling artists of all time. In 2014, the group had sold 178 million certified units (List 25, 2014). The most popular song by The Beatles is “Hey Jude” (1968), which sits at #1 for The Beatles 50 biggest billboard hits (Billboards, 2015).
