Andrew Jackson was able to rise to power with three major events that took place when he was in office; the Indian Removal, the Nullification crisis, and the Bank War. Andrew Jackson had his own time called the Jacksonian Era which occurred between 1824-1845. It was a time of growth with equality and through democracy. Andrew Jackson was a very important man in our history. There were several reasons for more of a democratic government in American politics and religion. Lots of participation in politics had occurred whether it was by styles of religion, worshipping, and Churches. “Jackson carried every state south and west of Pennsylvania in 1828 and polled 56 percent of the popular vote. Voter turnout shot up to 55 percent from the apathetic 25 percent of 1824.” (Goldberg, ed., The American Journey, 10.1.3). Jackson finally was able to get into office. Jackson had to remove the Indians to areas west of the Mississippi River. There was five Indian Nations affected with this removal; the Cherokees, Creeks, Choctaws, Chickasaws, and Seminoles. “Congress acted on Jackson’s recommendations in the Indian Removal Act of 1830. The act appropriated $500,000 for the negotiation of new treaties under which Indians would surrender their territory and be removed to land in the trans-Mississippi area.” (Goldberg, ed., The American Journey, 10.2.2). Some Indians didn’t make it through the removal and that was called Trails of Tears to remember the Cherokees. Next, was the nullification crisis that guaranteed South Carolina being challenged by a tariff policy. “Pushing to its logical extreme that states’-rights that a state, acting through popularly elected convention, had sovereign power to declare an act of the nation government null and inoperative.” (Goldberg, ed., The American Journey, 10.2.3).
