It more so affects people that are disabled in a significant matter. Disability in a failed nation is harder to cope with because if the country cannot provide for the non-disabled population, how can they provide for those who have a disability and require extra attention and resources? Whether these people live in proximity to hospitals and clinics and if they are accessible. As mentioned before, there is a lack of infrastructure in Somalia and Haiti. This lack will strengthen the connection between how a failed state can impact the outcome of a person who has a disability. These people in both countries are typically marginalized and are seen as vulnerable and desperate. In a lot of cases, having a disability is seen as a burden. Some families within these countries disregard members of their family who are disabled due to cost and time. They simply cannot afford to pay for extra medications, visits or even have time to take of a family member with a disability. Taking into account major health organizations is important due to their influence on people with a disability. I want to bring in the role of World Health Organization- WHO and UNICEF and if they have done anything to help those who are disabled in these states. I will focus on Handicap International in Haiti and what their role has been in Haiti dealing with those suffering post-Earthquake and the disabilities that were acquired before and after the natural disaster.
