There are 5 areas of performance in Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) that we consider as below standard. First, there is lack of public seats. As passengers need to arrive to the airport earlier before they can get in the plane, they need a seat to take a rest. In this moment, with limited number of seats, some of the passengers may only sit on the floor, especially when the flights are affected by the bad weather, many passengers will be stranded. Second, the terminal sign in terms of trolley instruction. Usually passengers carrying bulky baggage to walk around in the airport, so trolley will be use to reduce part of the baggage weight. Although there are cinema, learning center and virtual golf for entertainment, these cannot fulfill some of the passengers’ want. It is because these kinds of entertainments are more likely suit for children and adults. Therefore, passengers would be boring if they only play with their phone when those entertainments are not suitable for them. In order to maintain HKIA competitiveness, here are the improvement actions for the 5 below standard areas. First, HKIA can increase the number of seats. We saw that there are some spaces outside the express train in terminal 1. In order to avoid passengers standing for few hours to wait, we think this space is suitable to add seats. It is because that place is comparatively quiet, and the usage of the space would not affect many passengers. Second, HKIA can add signs to instruct where should the trolley put. As almost every passenger will use trolley, it is important to tell them where they should put the trolley in. so HKIA can add the sign on the instruction board or everywhere as passengers can see. In each month, HKIA can think of a topic about Hong Kong or traditional Chinese by using projector to project the video on floor or ceiling. While all passengers in HKIA can see it, this method also does not occupy valuable space in HKIA. Furthermore, HKIA can set up website which includes the Q&A and quizzes about the video, so this can increase interaction and passengers can know more Hong Kong. Fourth, HKIA can construct a better smoking area. Originally, it is an open smoking area, so we suggest that HKIA can build a closed smoking area for the sake of everyone. Therefore, the smoker can have a better smoking environment, and the passer-by can breathe cleaner air. If HKIA think it is expensive, they may put an air purifier near the smoking area, so that the toxic gas will not spread around. Fifth, HKIA can build a game centre. As game centre usually contain variety of games, such as car racing, dancing, shooting, and photo taking and so on. This can attract passengers spend their time there, because almost all range of passengers can use this facility and compete with their friends to gain excitement, so the time sure flies.
