Solving a murder is challenging. Sometimes it may seem near impossible, but with time and perseverance, it is possible. That is what FBI agent John O'Hara learned while he investigated Nora Sinclair. In the book Honeymoon by James Patterson, Nora Sinclair is the suspect of three, seemingly unconnected, murders. Agent John O'Hara is assigned to her case. He decides that the best way to discover the truth is to go undercover as an insurance seller. He uses the fake name of Craig Reynolds. Craig uses the insurance as a cover as he gets to know Nora. It takes a long time, but Craig does eventually uncover the truth and stops her from murdering innocent people. A murder book is different for every detective, but it is usually a notebook. In this notebook, everything should be written down. It should include photos of the scene, witness reports, crime scene reports, and anything and everything that may be useful. It is important to write down everything because a detective does not know when something they have written down will be useful. The next step is to begin establishing the timeline. This step takes a lot of effort. In this part of the investigation, the detective will learn everything they can about the victim's friends, acquaintances, enemies and everything in between. This helps to learn more about the weeks leading up to the murder. By understanding and knowing everything a detective can it allows them to break suspects alibis. Although there are other steps, this is the most important one in understanding why this crime was committed. By learning everything they can about the victim, it helps the detective to get leads. It is important in every murder case to follow every lead. Although some of them may lead to nothing it helps the detective to break down what did and did not happen.
