Beep! Beep! Beep! Goes the alarm clock in the other room. Oh man, surely it can't be time to get up yet, you think to yourself. As you scramble out of the bed and into the shower, the thought crosses your mind, I hope my car starts. You take the quickest shower possible and eat breakfast so fast you almost choke and then realize, I'm still going to be late for my 8 o'clock class. Throughout my Fall 2013 semester I have experienced and learned numerous ideas and information. All of my classes each taught me vital information to succeed and pursue my careers and goals in life. One of those classes was English 314 Honors. This class has truly broadened my horizon towards the numerous collections of literature in our world. I have learned the literary works of Egyptian’s, Mesopotamian’s, Indian’s (South India), Chinese’s, and African’s and how they each impacted their culture. In addition, I learned many philosophical beliefs from wisdom literature and the genre, geographic background, and time period of which each works were made (some dates were roughly estimated). However, the main takeaway from English 314 Honors is the style of how all the different literary works incorporate nature and its meaning it gives to each society. Throughout all the literary works I have learned nature is portrayed as a primitive, creative, beautiful, and tragic conception, which has a major influence on each culture.

Within “twenty love poems and a song of despair” written by poet Pablo Neruda, nature seems to be used as a device to put across the meaning of the poems to the audience through conventions such as metaphors, personification, pathetic fallacy and man y others that will be discussed below. The use of nature as a big theme throughout the poems can be linked back to Neruda’s life. It is widely known that Neruda travelled to many countries for various reasons and whilst there, he enjoyed visiting many of the locations that were nature based including the sea, the mountains and the fields. References to these as devices can be seen throughout the poems.
Steven Spielberg is one of the most respected directors of all time. He has made so many great movies over the years. With his strong imagination and his humongous love for movies, there is no doubt that he stands out from most directors.
The poet uses examples of imagery in this poem. The poet uses a simile in the first line of the first stanza to start off the poem. The simile she uses is ''the skin cracks like a pod''. The opening of the poem gives a clear message that something is severely wrong. A pod cracks with barely any resistance so the comparison to the skin is a unreserved statement outlining how easily the skin is. There is obviously a drought or a vast undersupply of water. The opening surprises the reader and gives an indication of what is to come. The poet uses a short and abrupt line which is effective
