In my opinion, I think Canada has come a long way in regards to dealing with homophobia since marriage equality was only legalized in 2005, but it is still a rampant issue. Although Canada is considered a very nice and welcoming country, it still has a lot of issues and problems that is unbeknowst to much of the world. In the city of Toronto which seems like a widely accepting and welcoming place, a LGBT business owner was startled when he discovered homophobic graffiti on the garage of his Toronto home. The message reads, "Toronto hates queers cuz your a biggot," and was reported amongst dozens of other hateful comments that were directed towards the LGBTQ community in the city. A lot of people talked about how health-care practitioners would not look them in the eye, seemed flustered by them or just generally communicated through their body language that they were uncomfortable due to their sexual orientation/identification. Numerous amounts of patients reported avoiding the emergency rooms or clinics where they had been mistreated which directly impacted their health care. At some points the practioner would be so uncomfortable by a LGBTQ person attending their clinic that they tried to get the patient out of their clinic as soon as possible, which led to a lack of diagnosis. Half-way across the world in the United Kingdom, more homophobics acts are being committed with it rising over 147% just 3 months after the Brexit vote. Not only was the LGBTQ community targeted but also people of a number of minorities such as, the hindus, muslims, and numerous other minorities.
