The setting in both Lord of the Flies and I Only Came to Use the Phone contributes to the dehumanization of the characters in each of the readings. The settings are both isolated, which is the cause of all the chaos that takes place because when you take a human being out of the comfort of society, they go back to their natural animalistic tendencies in order to survive. Survival of the fittest is present in these quotes. Also, the island archetype plays a huge role in both of the stories.
Most kids in school play a sport or does an afterschool activities. Right after school they go to their program and when that program is done they go home. Now, the hours those kids go home could be around 5 to 8. When those kids get home they’re not thinking about homework. They’re thinking about eat and then sleep. Homework doesn’t even come to their mind. Homework comes to their mind when it’s time to go to school and by then it’s already too late to do homework. Kids just don’t have the time to do homework. Coming home after a long day of practice, the kids going to be tired, and the kid has responsibility. The kid has to do his chores, clean his room, fix the bed and after all that he has to help his little sister or brother with their homework and that’s going to take another hour. By the time the kid has time to himself it’s time for him to go to the bed and he can’t go to bed because he has to do his homework and his homework is going to take another hour. That kid is probably going to bed around 10 or 11. He’s not going to sleep. After that he has to repeat the same process all over again. This routine is going to have a huge effect on the kid. This routine is going to affected him in his school work. He didn’t get enough sleep so when his in class he’s going to be sleeping and when his doing his work, he’s not going to be focus and well activate because his brain isn’t awake yet. These are all the effects homework will have on these kids. My friend told me this story about her cousin. She told me has an after school activities and after the after school activities he has to help his little sister and she says ‘’He’s being falling behind on his work because he doesn’t have time to do his homework.’’ I don’t blame him. Selah Saterstrom’s The Pink Institution is a novel set in the Deep South following the Civil War. It tells the story of a family over many generations from the point of view of the narrator (who is assumed to be the author of the novel). Slavery was ultimately about forced labor, and the enslaved struggled daily to express the standings of their work. Over the many years, ordinary rights developed in most fields of production. Although the living conditions of children are getting lot better than when we were kids, the children study more time than we did. The pupils have to get up at earlier than 7 o 'clock to make sure they won’t be late for school. Not only have that, these pupils still had to participate in various after school program, and a lot of variety of training during the weekends. The most pressure is homework. As a summer school teacher, I always can hear kids say that the teacher gave them too much work, had to spend two hours a day to compete the homework, and have no time to play. Is it too much pressure for the kids? That is the question for most of the parents. What should the parents as should do to let these children relax and do not have that much pressure? The 1960s was a period well remembered for all the civil rights movements that occurred during that time frame and the impact these movements had on the social and political dynamics of the United States. The three largest movements that were striving in the 1960s were the African American civil rights movement, the New Left movement and the feminist movement. These three movements were in a lot of ways influenced by each other and were very similar in terms of their goals and strategies. However, within each of these movements there were divisions in the way they tried to approach the issues they were fighting against. Todays students are busier than they have ever been in American history. Homework is a large contributor to this. The average student in America has approximately four hours of homework each night. If students start homework right when they get home from school, that gives them free time starting at 7:00 PM. The majority of students also have jobs. So. between school, work, homework, and practice, that leaves them virtually no time to be able to hang out with friends or to participate in family activities.

Are kids not spending enough time at school? Kids now-a-days spend about seven and a half hours at school five times a week, and sometimes less due to holidays or other occasions. According to Meg Stewart in “More Time in School” she says that the kids school schedule is “outdated” as well as created to help a generation where kids had to go back home to help their parents with farm duties. Times have changed and the only person kids usually come home to is one parent or guardian. She also mentions how kids schedules interfere with their parents’ work schedule so they should accommodate the parents work hours. Students are bombarded with hours of homework every night and it interferes with their lives. They are tired of staying up late at night to finish their homework or a paper that is due the next day. They should not have this workload that they have every night because they also have to live their childhood. Life is too short to be staying up until 11:00 because of schoolwork. Homework is unhealthy for students and it is not academically beneficial for them.
Children, on the other hand, have so much free time. Think about it, all they have to do is go to school. When I was a child I would go to school from seven in the morning to two o'clock in the afternoon. At three I had swim practice to five and from there I would go home, finish up some homework, and usually nap before dinner. After dinner, I would sometimes watch some TV with my dad and then be in bed at 9 PM precisely. As an adult now, I can't even fit all the things I have to do in one day. I am a full-time college student. I go to class in the morning, I do homework and study, then go to work, and by the time I’m home from working it's already 9 PM whereas a child at that time I would already be in bed ready for my next day.
