On the day May 18, 1896, a very important Supreme Court case took place. Homer Plessy, a native to Louisiana tried to ride in the white car on a train. Plessy, being seven eighths white, normally could pass as a white man. At the time of occurrence African-Americans had to ride in a Jim Crow Car on trains, while white people could ride in normal cars. In 1892, Plessy bought a ticket to go to Covington from New Orleans. Being mostly white he then sat in a white man's car on the train. He then stated to the conductor he was one eighth black and then refused to move. He then got arrested and brought to Louisiana Jail on a 500 dollar bond (Biography.com). He then went to court to plead the 13th and 14th amendment. Judge John Howard Ferguson
