Kennedy (1985) argues that being homeless means having no place called home, no place of privacy or place where one can feel settled. Homeless people are excluded from mainstream society, and many are reduced to sleeping in emergency accommodation, such as hostels or bed and breakfasts (Klutz, 2007). Women are hidden from mainstream society, as if they are living in the shadows, out of sight and out of mind. It is recognised that literature addressing both women with their children, while homeless was lacking (Klutz, 2007). When a mother is registered as homeless in Dublin she is more than likely provided with either emergency accommodation or short term accommodation. As soon as a mother makes herself known to the CPS, she is automatically assigned a social worker if not already assigned. The social worker’s main purpose is the child’s welfare and will ensure that the mother is meeting the child’s basic needs. When the mother is assigned accommodation in an STA, she is then assigned a keyworker whose main job is to seek suitable accommodation for the mother and her children. The mother will then be assigned a housing officer with her local authority that will then liaise with her keyworker. At this stage there is no allocated of a drug liaison
