Journal Entry: Writing Process for The Homeless in America The subject of the final paper will be concentrating on the homeless people in America, and how we, as American citizens can become a voice and reduce the number of people living in the streets, cars, or wherever they can find shelter for the night. This journal will look at the subject and the path I will need follow to accomplish the task. As described by Chaffee, McMahon, and Stout (2008) there are five different attributes in the Thinking-Writing Model as shown in figure 1.1 (p. 8) to complete a final paper. 1. The Writing Situation: consist of four elements. Purpose: research for ways to reduce the amount of people who are homeless, Audience: everyday citizens and government officials, Subject: the homeless in America, and Writer: I have spent 30 years traveling the US and have seen people living in cars, tents, or even in a cardboard box. My wife started making Manna bags for the homeless here in Lafayette, LA. She works downtown and talks too many of the homeless in that area. That is what inspired us to make a difference. The Writing Process: consist of six steps. Generating Ideas: do I want to make the subject covering all of the US or isolate it to certain states? Keeping a Journal; tracking your thoughts on the subject to use during the writing. Defining a Focus: create a thesis on the homeless problem. Organizing Ideas: look at in depth information on the homeless population and what is America doing to reduce the problem. Drafting: the beginning of the actual writing your ideas down on paper. This should be a free for all to the writer to let all thoughts come out on the paper. Revising, Editing, and Proofreading: the writer will re-read and make changes to the writing multiple times to bring out the strength of the
