Do you think getting married again will bring catastrophic disaster to your husband's house? In the novel Homeless Bird, by Gloria Whelan, Koly is 16 years old. She got married to a boy named Hari but Hari died from a sickness called tuberculosis, so she became a widow and her Sass left her in Venidravin and after that, she made new friends and she was asked to get remarried to Raji. Koly made the incorrect choice to marry Raji because she might not want to have kids or be with Raji later on, she also committed to a hard life of labor and work, like how she was about to run away from sass’s house, the last reason is she is going to leave her friend Tanu. At this point in the novel, Koly has already been thru torcher and a hard-working life she has had a husband die, Sasur has also died from starving himself. She was also starved to the bone because they did not have enough food for two of them. The novel states, “As the days passed Sass had little to say to me, addressing me only to give an order or to scold me for not carrying the order out as she wished”(48). Koly was put into more misery after Hari died, she was only talked to by Sass when she was doing something wrong or needed to tell her to do something. Sass is abusive, selfish, and not the person you want to be around with. Koly needs better and she does not know at this point if she is going to get that from anyone. Later in the novel, Sass and Koly were alone. Sass received a note in the mail that was from her brother that lives in Delhi, to go to them and they can sleep, eat, and work there. So Sass decides to stop at the widow's city and so they do. After a few hours there Koly realizes that she is going to live there for the rest of her life. The novel also states, “‘
