Holden Caulfield, the protagonist in “The Catcher in the Rye” is quite the character. Although there are many deceiving, mischievous ways about Holden, he is a normal, troubled teenager. Holden is very independent and shows many examples of this profound trait throughout the story. Just the idea that he left Pencey, went to a night club and got a room at a hotel are just a few significant examples. Although Holden is independent he is rather absent minded. He tends to get lost in his own opinions and completely misses what someone is trying to say to him.
