Adolf Hitler was an Australian born German politician and leader of the Nazi party. He was the chancellor of Germany from 1933 to 1945 and the dictator of Nazi Germany from 1934 to 1945. Hitler led Germany throughout World War 2 and tried to make Germany the supreme country. Hitler’s rise to power was based upon long-term factors: the bitterness of the Germans, the horror of his storm-troopers, the weakness of the Weimar system, his use of propaganda and his brilliant persuasive speeches he gave. Hitler successfully annexed Czechoslovakia, Austria, West Poland, Denmark, Norway, Belgium, Netherland, France, Channel Islands, Yugoslavia, Greece, Eastern Poland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Soviet Union and Italy. They were humiliated and horrified by the treaty and felt let down by the German government at being made to take the blame for the entire war and having to pay for it. The treaty would have helped Hitler to gain power because the bitterness and resentment of the German people were used by Hitler to unite Germans. The Enabling Act was a law which was passed by the German Reichstag in 1933 which allowed Adolf Hitler to accept dictatorial powers. Deputies from the Nazi Party, the Centre Party and the German National People’s Party voted in favour of enabling Hitler to issue orders independently of the Reichstag and the presidency. People who feared Communists were the German businessmen because if a communist revolution took place the communists would take their wealth and business from them. Hitler promised he would crush the communists. Hitler persuaded the Reichstag to vote for the Enabling Act because the act needed the supports of two-thirds of the Reichstag to allow him to pass laws without asking the Parliament or the President. On the 27th of February 1933, the Reichstag (German Parliament) building was burnt down due to arson. A Dutch communist, Marinus van der Lubbe was caught near the blaze and blamed for the fire. Hitler took advantage of this fire and peoples’ fear of communism. He used the fire as evidence that the communists were plotting against the government. People were scared after the fire that the communists were trying to take over. Hitler ordered his SA that every communist official should be ‘shot where he is found’ and that “communist deputies must be hanged this very night”.
