Stevens 1 Raegan Stevens Mr. Musick/ Ms. Lynch ENG. 10 Nixon is probably one of the most unpopular presidents in history. Aside from nearly putting a hit on a journalist, he was also at the center of one of the few scandals in history where the conspiracy theorists were most likely correct. I’m not talking about the Watergate Scandal either. The Presidential Campaign of 1968 was a very close election between Humphrey and Nixon. The Vietnam War had become a slaughterhouse for America’s population and everyone wanted the war over and done with. So when the two sides came to the negotiating table in the dying days of LB Johnson’s presidency, it looked like a great boost for the Democrats.
