Character Analysis Of Hester Prynne
Throughout all the sinful things Hester Prynne has done, she still managed to obtain good qualities. Hester was an adulterer from the book The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Hester was looked down upon by the citizens of Boston because of the sin she and another person committed, but no one knew who her partner in crime was because she refused to release his name. Towards the very end of the story Hester’s accomplice confessed and left Hester and Pearl feeling joyous, because now they didn’t have to keep in a secret. Hester is a trustworthy, helpful, and brave woman throughout The Scarlet Letter.

After Hester stood on the scaffold, being humiliated in front of the public she was granted the option to leave or stay in Boston. “Here. she said to herself, had been the scene of her guilt, and here should be the scene of her earthly punishment; and so, perchance, the torture of her daily shame would at length purge her soul…” (Hawthorne 72). Since Hester decided to stay in Boston, because it was the place where she committed her sin the citizens treated Hester and Pearl very poorly. When Hester and Pearl would walk through town they would get evil glares and the children’s parents would tell their kids biased information about Hester and Pearl, because of this the children wouldn’t want to play with Pearl, instead they threw things at her. Hester’s decision to stay in Boston with all the citizens that saw her as a sinner really took a toll on how she was treated.
Hester Prynne had outstanding character traits for a person that went through a rough time. She was very trustworthy and kept secrets that could have altered some outcomes in her life. Her unbelievable forgiving nature allowed her to remain helpful to the citizens of Boston and make them articles of clothing even with all the crude behavior she experienced. Hester was also brave, by committing to stay in the place of her sin. Hester is an outstanding
