Eating is both an important and enjoyable activity in our life. Food has all the essential nutrients that our body needs. Healthy eating is not about following a strict diet. It is also not difficult. Each meal, each dish, choose something fresh and with colorful ingredients. Healthy eating is also known as a balanced diet. There are a lot of benefits in maintaining a balanced diet. A balanced diet is eating a variety of foods. Generally speaking, carbohydrate as energy of body, such as wholegrains, bread, pasta, cereals and rice, protein for building and repairing body such as meat, fish and egg, lipids as provide energy and prevent heat loss from the body such as olive oil, fish oil, nuts and seeds, vitamins and minerals are essential nutrients for functioning of the body system such as vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds. Choosing healthier fats and oils, limiting salt and sugar intake and drinking plenty of water. These foods will keep us physically and mentally well. Healthy eating prevents or reduces many types of diseases such as obesity, heart disease and cancer. It also helps to develop growth and maintain the immune system, whilst increasing one’s chances of having a long healthy life (Healthy Eating, 2012). Having a bad diet will increase the chance of people being obese or overweight. This further increases the risk of many diseases. Chronic conditions and diseases associated with obesity include diabetes, high blood pressure, stroke, heart disease, atherosclerosis, some cancers and sleep apnoea. Obesity and other diseases such as cancers, cardiovascular diseases and diabetes are biggest factors in causing an estimated 35 million deaths each year (Obesity, 2014). These foods have rich in calcium, vitamin D and other nutrients that are important for your bone health and overall health. Taking enough amount of Vitamin D is necessary to work for absorption calcium. In conclusion, healthy eating helps to maintain our bodies in various ways. A balanced diet helps to reduce eating bad foods in your diet. It helps to reduce many major diseases and cancers. Eating a variety of healthy foods will also help to develop the immune system in our body. Taking essential minerals is also important to maintain the body. Healthy eating will help to develop and improve our body functions and maintain a strong bone structure.
