The profession I have chosen to obtain a degree in is Healthcare Administration. A healthcare administrator is responsible for coordinating and directing care in any healthcare field. The healthcare administrator is in charge of all the medical care and the administrative responsibilities of the facility. A healthcare administrator is responsible to everything that keeps a medical facility functioning. Healthcare administrators can even be in charge of billing. The education requirements for Healthcare Administration are typically bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration from an accredited college. The healthcare field is always changing so that employee must be flexible and able to handle and maintain the changes that are taking place in their environment. Being in the military for 5 years I feel that I would be flexible enough for this job. I have always worked in the health care field so I know how often policies and standards are changing. Another personality trait that I will need has a health care administrator is effective communication skills. I will be dealing with people from all walks of life, nurses, doctors, patients as well as other healthcare professionals so I need to be able to communicate with all types of people to run an effective and manageable medical facility. I will need to know the jobs and duties of all the people of the hospital so I will need to be open minded in my job. Organization will also play an important role in my job description. I will be responsible for a lot of different people and tasks throughout the health care facility so I will need to stay organized so I can keep track of what is being accomplished. Finally, professionalism is a quality I will need to have being that I will be a direct representation of the organization I will be working in and maintaining. I would like to help people who struggle with addiction and drug and alcohol abuse. I hope to work with the patients as well maintain the facility administratively. I hope to run a safe and secure facility where addicts feel safe and can be treated medically while they come off of their drug of choice. This career goal will require me to further my education and obtain a bachelor’s degree then get licensed to run a long term treatment facility. Once I complete this step I would like to maintain operation at this facility and to help as many people as possible. An administrative assistant must be able to handle stress, multitask, and work well under pressure. There are multiple jobs that the administrative medical assistant is responsible for, such as, answering the phone, being able to use computer applications, triaging phone calls with the permission of the physician, scheduling appointments, filing patient charts, collecting money, filing insurance claims and medical coding. When answering a call, greeting a patient, or writing a letter they must do so in a professional matter. They must also have good communication skills and a good personality and be familiar with medical terminology and medical coding, and be able to help patients with their best of knowledge. Managed Care Organizations (MCO’s) formed in the 1970’s. There are two organizations that fall under the MCO umbrella commonly known as HMO’s and PPO’s. With HMO’s, the primary care physician acts as a chief liaison, thus organizing services and treatment for the patient. With the organizational structure of HMO plans, patients must see the PCP to access specialized services they may need; however, PPO plans allow additional flexibility for the patient by allowing the patient to choose providers within the network relieving the primary care physician of acting as a gateway keeper.

In compliance to this agreement, the co pays are lowered by a managing company who oversees all health care interactions of their clients. There are a variety of different areas in health care. Unlike some people may assume, there are many more places one could work other than a hospital. The one thing that interests me about wanting to become a health administrator is the jobs duties! Being a health administrator controlling finances, supply ordering, personnel oversight and training as well as many other numerous tasks that need to be completed for successful operations.
