As an advisor to the UN advocacy campaign promoting LGBT rights all over the world, I would like to recommend the issue regarding health concerns and access to healthcare for the LGBT community. Research has suggested that individuals of the LGBT community face health disparities linked to societal stigma, discrimination, and denial of their civil and human rights. Such discrimination against LGBT individuals has in some cases lead to psychiatric disorders, substance abuse, and suicide. These individuals have been subject to instances of violence and victimization, which may have a lasting effect on both the individual and the community. Ever since its implementation health coverage for LGBT adults has been increasing. In a recent study, the Urban Institute found that the share of uninsured LGBT adults significantly decreased between 2013-2015, decreasing almost 10%, which is more than the decrease for non-LGBT adults. It is essential in ensuring access to services that a health care environment must be set up focused on providing medical treatment, referral services and counseling that support LGBT persons in adopting a healthy lifestyle. For instance, The Howard Brown Health Centre is one US’s largest LGBT organization, which offers medical and psychiatric care and mental health counseling to Chicago’s uninsured and low-income persons at a discounted rate. In September 2013, the center opened Airs Health, a new facility that provides comprehensive primary health care and medical and behavioral support to the LGBT
