The purpose of this paper is to present my beliefs about health and wellness. There are many factors that contribute to good health and wellness; to me, the word health means that your body is without injury or illness. If the word health has to do with the three dimensional body, then wellness, therefore, is the state of being in which a body is in. Wellness is an ongoing quest of reaching your best health. I believe that there are many factors that contribute to wellness, such as, physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional states. In order to be in the best health possible, these factors of wellness must balance out. The meanings of these two words are both very important to me. For example, watching TV can have an effect on an individual’s well being. I know that I always have TV programs at the click of a button. With websites like Netflix or Amazon Prime, no longer do I have to wait a week to watch a television show. The convenience of being able to “binge watch” these shows is definitely an issue. I have fallen susceptible to the accessibility of being able to watch several episodes at a time. My state of well being has undeniably been affected by this. Watching too much TV is habit forming, makes me lazy, and has led me to eating more due to just sitting around. It also affects my productivity; frequently, it can be difficult to see the connection between seemingly harmful things and the state of well-being, but it is important to be able to recognize these things in order to keep a good state of health and …show more content…

Keeping track of what I eat and the number of calories I consume a day will be helpful in achieving this goal. Second, I would like to focus on meditation or yoga in order to balance out all of the factors of wellness I described above. With running being a passion of mine, I would like to fully rehab my knee and return to running daily. More specifically, I want to be able to run in the Pittsburgh Half Marathon in 2016, and beat my previous time. Finally, in order to become a better runner, I would like to learn how to lift weights and build more muscle. In regards to meditation, yoga, and lifting weights, I plan to find a friend or mentor that can help me learn these forms of exercising the mind and body. Lastly, my intention is to not push myself into doing anything too quickly, in regard to my knee so I do not create more injury. Once I am fully recovered I plan to get back to training for my second half
