The trees are big, leaves flowing in the wind, soft sand on your feet and the best of all the shining blue water of Maui,Hawaii full of underwater plants and mysterious creatures. Although, Hawaii can be scary deep down, deep in the wild that is unknown and undiscovered. “Jackson!” my cousin Zac blurted out worriedly. I turned around trying to find out where my cousin went. I went down the the shore as the sunlight is beaming in my eyes and it is extremely hard to see. “Zac! Where are you?” I shouted. He popped out of nowhere behind a tree. “Jackson, I’m scared! Wha-What!” I cut him off telling him everyone thing will be okay and we fill find a way to get out of here. Zac is 3 years older than me and can do harder work, but I am definitely more calm and can handle difficult situations easily and without panicking. My cousin and I were out hiking with my mom until we said we were going to going to go check out a cool waterfall about a few hundred feet away. I don’t know what happened but when we went back to go see my mom she wasn’t there, either that or we took the wrong direction back. When I stepped out of the hot, airless plane into the bright, dazzling sunlight beaming down across the burning concreate, I felt excited and nervous. Holding my beach bag in my hand and slipping my Ray Ban sunglasses on with my other, I flip-flopped down the airspace. Overhead I heard the screams of gulls and the chatter of the small fluffy birds. I suddenly realized I had arrived to Hawaii. This trip was such an unforgettable vacation for me because I got to witness the beauty of nature that Hawaii has to offer.
Located in the popular Yosemite National Park, Yosemite Falls is the tallest waterfall in California. Every year, mother nature’s breathtaking beauty attracts millions of people from around the world. People hike for three long and fatiguing hours in anticipation of witnessing forceful water rushing down the steep mountain from 2,425 feet above. Last summer, my family and I backpacked through the Yosemite Falls Trail and I came to learn what a truly exhausting experience it is.

Less than a mile away was the caldera and it was very surreal knowing that within running distance was volcanic lava boiling beneath the surface of the Earth waiting to one day erupt again. The ground was flat and cracked all around. We turned back up the dirt path to head up the trail into the foliage of the forest again, finally finding our way back after over an hour of searching and pondering. The Hawaiian islands are unlike any other place in the word in person. So much foliage and wildlife exists that you cannot find anywhere else, and each island is unique in its own little way without any controversy. This experience with my husband showed me how geologically diverse a given area of land can be and how nature can affect an ecosystem over a long period of time.
It was August of 1819 in Mississippi. Men were harvesting corn and beans. The smell of the Choctaw own acorn bread filled the air. All the children were prancing about, playing with friends, shooting squirrels with their little toy bows, and wrestling for the last bite of jerky. All but one child. People do not know that there is more to it than ink or hip swaying; behind every hula skirt and every tattoo there is a story. Hawai’i’s culture consists of the significance of its dances, tattoos, and traditions that give Hawaiians their unique lifestyle.
A couple of friends and I went camping last summer around Pitt Lake. We were a group of four skinny urkels who knew almost nothing about camping, and it didn’t help to have hiking backpacks twice our size and weight. One day, we were canoeing on the lake about 2 hours from land, and almost 4 hours from our destination. Out of the blue, a loud roar echoed through my ears. I first I thought it was the 3 cups of Mr.Noodles I hogged this morning until one of my buddies yelled out “THUNDER” . While walking down the beach, the white, warm sand mushes between your toes. The sun’s radiant rays beam off your glowing skin. The sound of waves crashing blocks out the external world. There is no other place like the gorgeous tropical islands of Hawaii. The wide range of flowers, cuisine, and wildlife makes it one of the most diverse places on Earth; however, the unappealing aspects Hawaii makes it one of the most dangerous in the world.

I can hear the pounding of the waves against the shore, moving rhythmically with the wind blowing past my face. I feel the hot sand surrounding my toes, only to be cooled down by the touch of the salty deep-blue sea. I listen to mom hysterically laugh as my dad tells another one of his “dad jokes” and as my older brother helps me keep my balance when the waves try to knock me over like a bowling pin. This is the descriptive story that brings me joy to tell my younger brother about my favorite Hawaiian trip before he was born, even though it is impossible for me to remember this from when I was only 3 years old. Why do I torture my brother by gloating to him about this perfect trip? I do it on account of what his birth imposed on me, the curse of being a middle child.
