Henry ‘’Harry’’ T Burleigh an African American Composer, Arranger & Baritone, devoted his life to music and to the service of God. Mr. Burleigh a world-famous composer, arranger and soloist, wrote Go down Moses, a negro spiritual The melody to Go Down Moses has a sad nature, it reveals feelings of darkness, almost as if you will never live to see the day of freedom. It is a dramatic production, unforgettable after listening all the way to the closing of the song. There are five primarily rise of notes sung to the words, "Let my People go." There is some repetition in the vocal although the melody differs on its second coming each time, but closes with those same dark five notes.

“You’ve Got to Hide Your Love Away”, a ballad composed by John Lennon in 1965, juxtaposes the new and old Beatles in a thrilling manner. This song represents the Beatles’ returning to their instrumental roots from The Quarrymen with Paul’s bass, George and Lennon’s acoustic guitars, and Ringo’s percussion forming the main instruments throughout the piece. This song comes at a time when Lennon lyrics and tonal timbre proved susceptible to Bob Dylan’s influence , causing Lennon to impersonate Dylan’s vocal style as he searched for his own. This side of the album also illustrates the huge collaborative effort that George Martin and the Beatles put into creating our listening experience, as the lyrics and song titles of the first side of the album present the background for this piece. Lennon builds on this background by detailing how he feels that he must conceal his emotions from the world, especially after his mother’s death. “You’ve Got to Hide Your Love Away” demonstrates the beginning of an introspective, yet simpler Lennon who begins to reveal his emotions through his songs, and the album’s structure serves as a base for the story of Lennon’s piece.
Connie Fife is a Saskatchewan, Cree poet who writes using her unique perspective, telling of her personal experiences and upbringing. This perspective is revealed to her audience through the poems “This is not a Metaphor”, “I Have Become so Many Mountains”, and “She Who Remembers” all of which present a direct relationship to her traditional background and culture (Rosen-Garten, Goldrick-Jones 1010). To show the relationship of her experiences through her poetry, Fife uses the form of dramatic monologue, as well as modern language and literal writing to display themes about racism presenting her traditional viewpoint to her audience.
After being labeled the king of folkie/protest, Dylan began to rebel against the rebellion. Dylan’s fourth album, Another Side of Bob Dylan, likely refers to his romantic and whimsical side, or anything that rebels from his folk label. This album is also unique in its experimentation with free form poetry in the lyrics. In February 1964, Dylan embarked on a trip across the U.S. to “find enough inspiration to step beyond the folk-song form, if not in the bars, or from the miners, then by peering deep into himself” (Another Side of Bob Dylan). He wrote the songs for this album in the back of the minivan, and recorded 14 of them in one night at the studio.

Feeling unwanted from the closest people in your life who turn away from you when you need them the most, is the worst feeling a person can endure. I chose the song “My Story” by Sean McGee, because people young and old can relate to his song. People from different backgrounds can relate to each other when there are living homeless or raised as a foster child. Sean McGee wrote “my daddy don’t know, my momma don’t care, it don’t matter if I’m here, it don’t matter if I’m dead” people all around the world have the same issues and share a common culture. A master status is the most important status a person occupies, this is a key factor in determining a person’s social position.
Quinlan is a very segregated town in alabama. A group of high schoolers and a group called SNCC wanted to make a difference so they used techniques called nonviolence and disobedience. One example of disobedience would be when Owen,Nora,and Coleman went into the “public library”. This is disobedience because technique they weren’t aloud into the library they had there own library. The consequence of this was when they tried to go back was the librarian chained the fence so they couldn’t get in. The impact of this was they started to learn how to be more and more nonviolent and to not fight back and to negotiate and it also led to more sit-ins and marches and protests. In “Go Down, Moses,” the first and third lines of each stanza would have been sung by a leader, and a group would respond in unison with the phrase “let my people go.” This addition is crucial to the format of an African spiritual and a convention that can be specifically ascribed to the African-American slave tradition. “I’m that jealous girl” Jasmine Villegas song in her hit song “Jealous”. She expressed her emotions to her audience by using deep and heartfelt words throughout her song to show how much she cared and loved her boyfriend. Over the years, Jasmine has gone through a rough relationship experience with her boyfriend, Jinsu. She was suspicion that Jinsu had feelings for another girl that he met at a party. It bothered Jasmine so much that she couldn’t even sleep at night or eat during the day. The consistent fighting, arguing, and shouting always got out of control. However, such songs as Wade in the Water, Swing Low, Sweet Chariot, and Follow the Drinking Gourd, were once used as an important tool of survival by the slaves of the antebellum era. The content of many Negro spirituals consisted of a religious theme. However, Negro spirituals were not intended to be religious. The primary purpose of Negro spirituals was to mislead an overseer or the plantation owner.
People that are “just under the upper hand” often go to desperate measures day after day to make ends meet (Sheeran 16). Solomon was invited to a Jew wedding in Brownsville. There were a lot of people that talked Dr. Solomon to mention him all their dead family and how they perished.
