Haiti
The water issue of Haiti is very severe. Haiti has more than half of the deaths per year caused by water-borne diseases, such as typhoid fever, cholera and chronic diarrhea. Besides, contaminated water is also one of the main causes of childhood illness, and the infant mortality rate in Haiti is very high.

At the beginning of 2010, a large-scale 7.0 earthquake occurred in Haiti, the problem of water shortage became even more severe. The earthquake has had a devastating impact on the country, including inadequate clean water. Earthquakes caused great damage to wells and water systems, which provided main freshwater sources to the Haitian people.

To provided such options, they used participatory approaches to assess the Haitian citizens’ willingness to pay for water bills.

In line with the national health strategy, the World Bank also carried out health and health promotion and training activities, which were focused on the development of incentive. In these ways, they encouraged Haitians to establish, maintain and use their own toilets.

The World Bank contributed $ 5 million to DINEPA's Rural Water and Sanitation Program. IDA helped Haiti reconstructed or repaired 15 drinking water systems, which can service 59367 people. IDA also built 1 health center for 14 public schools. 5547 students and teachers can benefit from this health center. Besides, they reconstructed or repaired 25 sets of toilets, 25 urinals and 28 sinks.
