The apocalyptic writer of the Old Testament and theme relates to Haggai in the rebuilding of the temple. The book of Haggai is the 10th of the Minor or lesser, prophets in the Hebrew bible. The book of Haggai is the shortest of the Hebrew bible consisting of only two chapters. The prophet’s origin centers on the rebuilding of the temple under the leadership of Zerubbabel, a descendant of one of the last Davidic kings of Judah. Historically, Zerubbabel is a Babylon name that means “seed, offspring of Babylon.” Zerubbabel’s presence at the head of the list of returned exiles (Ezra 2:2=Neh. 7:7) suggest that he was born in exile and later in this life returned to Judah/Yehud after the edict of Cyrus allowed the Judean exiles to return to their …show more content…

Haggai addressed the people to consider their ways before the Lord. It had become obvious that the people was being defiant in following the instruction that was placed before them by Haggai. The people priority was in question in verse 1:4, then, the word of the Lord came by Haggai the prophet, saying, “Is it time for you yourselves to dwell in you paneled houses while this house lies desolate?” The people were failing to recognize the authority of the Lord, which had been given to the prophet Haggai. Nevertheless, God continue to speak and instruct the people to not only rebuild the temple, but rebuild it in a way that was pleasing in His sight and that brought glory to His name. After the fear of God finally rested upon the people and the leadership of Zerubbabel and Joshua, their spirit was stirred to do as God and his prophet Haggai commanded. As people became encourage, they were once again reminded of the importance of rebuilding the temple to the glory of the Lord. This temple was not to be a replica of the first temple built by Solomon. For Solomon’s preparation and used of material was soon destroyed 66 years after its building. Hence forth, God repeatedly expounded on the expectancy of Haggai leadership toward the people in their efforts to rebuild the temple as expected with right spirit and by
