Ever since the age of social media ushered in, the people in the society can easily be in touch with one another. Social media defines the relationship that exist around the network of people (Walter & Rivera,2004). The very first social medium, Six Degrees, was created in 1997 to allow users to make and customize their profile and to make friends with other user which leads us to the very purpose why social media is very popular today. Social media has been created because of the necessity to share tons of ideas and to connect with other people around the world by engaging on real time conversations through sending messages and having videoconferences. It has been observed that the GPAs of non-users are relatively higher than those who are active in using social media. 68% of students who use social media have lower GPAs compared to those who are not active in social media. Interestingly, these active users denied that the use of social media have impact on their GPAs. They may not be fully aware of the fact that networking habits affect their academic performance.
Students from all over the world, are spending countless hours immersed in social media, such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Ask.fm, Tumblr and many more. This may seem like a waste of time, but it also has its benefits. It also helps the students to develop important knowledge and social skills, and be active citizens who create and share content. Students utilize these sites on a daily basis. The social media’s continuous growth in popularity has shown that technology has become a vital part of every students’ success
