“Whether the gun violence happens in urban Chicago, suburban Virginia, or rural Texas, we must act now on new and stronger gun laws and policies to protect our children.” (momsdemand). Every advertisement we see and listen to has a different way in which it conveys its message to its consumers. Advertisers look at who they are directing their ads to and ways in which they can appeal to their consumers. The Moms Demand Action campaign is no exception, they set their ad in a library setting with two little girls, of diverse backgrounds, sitting on the floor. One of the girls is hold a book titled “Little Red Riding Hood” and the other girls is hold a gun. Feeling safe behind a gun can only go so far, typically mothers don’t feel the need for a gun in the household. In fact, according to a poll done through Gallup, 45% of women feel it would be to have a gun in their possession (Newport). When it comes to their kids it is definitely something they don't want around them. Sure, “Nobody in their right mind want to be intimidated, menaced, battered, and poised.” (Fowles 10). Of course mothers want their children to be safe but not behind a gun. Sandy Hook school shooting, Aurora movie theater shooting in colorado and the Orlando nightclub shooting are all examples in which mom lost loved ones through the use of guns. This is what they envision when it they demand action for gun sense in america. Incidents like these that provide hurt, pain, and lost are what appeal to our need to feel safe.
Safety, guidance, and nurture are the main appeals the “moms demand action” advertising uses to persuade U.S citizens to take action on gun control. Weather you are in urban Chicago, suburban Virginia, or rural Texas, no matter where in the world you are gun control is a topic that remains identical. Coming from a mother's perspective I understand where they are coming from because growing up my mom always taught us what was right from wrong.
