Is the right to bare arms worth the amount of deaths and injuries in the United States? Gun Control has been a heavily debated and controversial topic throughout the United States. In 2013, 30,000 people died of gunshot wounds in America. After the prohibition of the “Gun Control Act of 1968,” there was a massive increase in homicide and suicide. Because there are so many shootings and unnecessary death today everywhere in the United States because of guns, the nation should adopt a universal gun control system enforcing stricter gun control laws, including background checks and permits. The United States has a long history with the establishment of gun control laws. In 1791, the 2nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was ratified, declaring “the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” New York passed the “Sullivan Act” in 1911, which allowed someone to purchase a gun with a permit required. This was just the beginning. In 1934, Congress passed the “National Firearms Act” which gave someone a $200 tax on gun sales requiring guns to be registered with the treasury. the “Gun Control Act” was passed in 1968, outlawing mail order sales of rifles and guns. Also, Bill Clinton signed the “Violent Crime Control” and “Law Enforcement Act” into law in 1994, which banned the manufacture and sales of assault weapons. The Supreme Court in 1997 declared background checks of the “Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act” unconstitutional which has left a huge impact on society, in which guns are getting in the hands of people with mental illness. Overall, gun control laws have had a long history with the United States, with much more to come. Gun control is a major problem is the United States because guns are getting ... ... middle of paper ... ...ry difficult to posses a gun. Gun laws should all be the same throughout the world, not only to end unneeded deaths, but to stop the controversial argument of some states having too loose of gun laws, and some states having too strict of gun laws. If this continues, there will be more futile deaths in the United States, and traumatizing homicidal events. To fix this problem, their needs to be stricter laws involving training, a certificate, a background check, and a restriction of what certain type of gun that can be used, depending on the background check and training. This should be a Universal law, and they should abolish state laws. Have you ever heard of or witnessed an innocent person dying because of guns? To make a difference in the world their needs to be a Universal gun control law to stop all of the deaths and injuries of innocent people from happening.
