I knew I wanted guinea pigs for the longest time. They were the fluffiest and friendliest animals I had ever seen. I remember so vividly passing the tank they stayed in at our local pet store and longing for the day I could finally have one of my own. That day came several years later on a cold Tuesday morning during Winter Break. After asking my dad for what seemed like the billionth time, he caved. My excitement was immeasurable. I remember getting dressed as quickly as possible and begging my mom to take me to our local humane shelter. I was sure I wouldn't find a guinea pig, but it was the first place on my list to look.
Once I arrived, I was greeted by all kinds of different pets of all shapes, sizes, and species. There were birds, hamsters, cats, and guinea pigs. I brought myself up to the counter and asked the lady about the guinea pigs and which ones were adoptable. She went through the hall where the cages were lined up and told me about all of them and their names. There were so many in need of good homes. I was overwhelmed! My mom impatiently waited for me to figure out which one I wanted. I ended up finding myself focused on a pair. Their names were Mars and Poppy.

They were elderly, which meant many people had looked over them when they were choosing a pet to adopt. I, however, couldn't look past them. Mars sported a fluffy brown coat and large doe eyes that melted my heart. Poppy was the eldest and was stark white. She had large red eyes and a long curly coat. They were the perfect pair. My heart was set on
In these dark hours, perhaps the worst in the history of the farm, I find that I only see unhappiness amongst each other. The cause of this unhappiness you ask, is the pig who you trusted, Napoleon. If he stays in power than the farm won’t be the only thing we will lose. Just take it from Boxer, He is a trustworthy horse Who never did any of us wrong. And Where is he now?, Oh right Napoleon had him killed just to pay for his whiskey. Now I don’t know about you but I think having ruler who would choose whiskey over an animal isn’t fit to rule.
Alastair Norcross in his article “Puppies, Pigs, and People: Eating Meat and Marginal cases “expresses the moral dilemma based on factory farming. Norcross gives an example of a man named Fred. Fred has to torture puppies in order to be able to enjoy chocolate. This is because when puppies are brutally tortured and then brutally killed they release a chemical called cocoamone. This chemical enhances the taste of chocolate, so Fred is killing puppies for gustatory pleasure. Any morally sound person would be appalled at what Frank is doing to these puppies and that is the basis of Norcross’s article. He is arguing that raising animals on factory farms and what Fred is doing are both morally wrong, because in both cases we are brutally killing the
And do you remember the story that I started with about the little girl and Mom purchasing that cute little brown Cocker Spaniel? Well the Mom soon realized that the little puppy was too much to handle. So the Mom took the puppy to local animal shelter and gave up her rights. The puppy was sad, but was excited of the opportunity of a forever home. Unfortunately, days, weeks, months past and no other family came around. Soon the shelter was at its max and since the puppy had been there the longest; she had to endure the same fate as many animals in the animal shelter do. That of a perfectly healthy innocent puppy has to be
The Pigman, by Paul Zindel, was written with the intended audience of young adults, and due to such, presents a variety of themes that all remain relevant to the adolescent mind and ideology. These themes range from the determination of guilt and responsibility, to the ultimate acceptance of mortality and existentialism, including the dread that comes with it. However, the most prevalent theme in the novel seems to regard maturity, and more specifically, the lack of correlation between age and maturity, and the conscious decision to live blissfully within ignorance, or to bravely face reality. In the novel, both protagonists, John and Lorraine, live in a less than ideal familial circumstance. Lorraine lives with her morally corrupted and widowed mother, whom through

The scary part for Maggie is that she was going to the pound, but we saved her. Every morning I wake up, feed, and give water to Maggie. Most of the time I am the first one to get back to my house so when I get home I do the same thing, feed her and give her water. One day my cousin came to my house, and we went outside with Maggie and played catch with one of her toys.
While I was doing my preceptorship, it was like nothing I’ve ever witnessed before. The lead Veterinary technician, Nicole gave me a wonderful tour of the building. Right before the tour she said that every day at 9:45am they have a little huddle with each department. During this huddle, each department shares what they have going on today, who is going to have a walkie talkie on them today, and who is going to be where. On the tour she explained to me how many different programs they do with all the animals. Also they don’t just work with dogs and cats. They have dogs, cats, pocket pets, and also birds. Going to the Animal Humane Society in Golden Valley was an awesome experience. First of all this place was huge. They have several different boarding rooms for all kinds of different animals.
Since the beginnings of society’s division into a hierarchy of man’s importance, the bottom of the social pyramid was always those seen as lacking morals. Whether immoral qualities were synonymous with skin color or occupation, a supposed lack of moral integrity allowed for those higher in stature to impose at times grueling oppression upon the degraded. As society evolved many advances pushed for equality among the masses so that each man or woman was allowed the freedom of bias or judgment. However, no matter how advanced the human race, there is still a hierarchy and at the lowest of its levels lies prisoners. Prisoners in modern times are often seen as morally deficit and depraved monsters that deserve the worst of punishments to repent for their crimes. Consequently, since prisoners occupied the lower levels of society’s class division history suggests that they are to be subject to the oppression of their proclaimed superiors, the unchained population. The use of prisoner’s for medical research has gone from something that has been considered adequate to something that is unacceptable and inhumane.
Owning a pet can sometimes have both jovial and tragic feelings. I remembered when I had to experience this phase in my life. When I was six, my parents bought an infant German Shepard, which was a great moment in my life. My brother and I were thrilled because it was the first time having a mascot in the household. Unfortunately, the excitement was short-lived as the German Shepherd was compressed while my parents were parking in the driveway.
When I was little I absolutely loved riding my horse. I rode my horse with my mom everyday. I didn’t care if the whether was hot, or cold I would always be on my horse. I rode everyday after school. I have almost been riding horses since I was born.
I remember waking up in the morning with my parents and literally feeling sick. God help me, but a part of me wished that Spicy had died overnight, so I wouldn't have to go through this. We were all crying before we even got to the vet. While we sat in the waiting room, I stared at the various children playing with their new pets. I wondered if they knew what they were getting into.
and I asked about their permanent residents. The permanent residents included animals that have a mental or physical reason that prevents their adoption, but are loved and cared for at the shelter. I
Pig Beach (also known as Pig Island, Major Cay, and officially Big Major Cay) is an uninhabited island located in Exuma, the Bahamas. Its unofficial name comes from the fact that it is populated by a colony of feral pigs that live on the island and in the surrounding forest. The unique feature of this island is that the pigs frequently go swimming on the beach, which allows tourists the unusual ability to interact and swim with the pigs. There is no way to reach Pig Beach except by boat, but there are a number of tours that go there every day, even from locations as far as Nassau (which requires a two-hour boat ride, each way).
