After watching the trailer of Guardians of the Galaxy, I knew that this movie is going to be a hit of this summer. The trailer follows along with the song of Blue Swede “Hooked on a Feeling”, which is a successful attention-getter because it really hooks many audiences. Once the audiences have watched the trailer, this song will hardly go away from their heads, especially “Ooga-Chaka Ooga-Ooga, Ooga-Chaka Ooga-Ooga, I am hooked on a feeling, I am high on believing.” Also, unlike other trailers of Marvel’s movies, such as Captain America, which mostly focused on the heroism, love stories, and action, this trailer puts more effort into entertaining audiences. The story is about how five criminals: Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel), Rocket Raccoon (voiced by Bradley Cooper), and Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista), who are related because of the infinity stone. Peter stole the infinity stone from Korath the Purser (Djimon Hounsou) went to a planet called Xandar, and he tried to sell it to the broker. However, the broker knew how powerful the stone is, so he rejected Peter’s offer. At the same time, Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace) sent Gamora to steal the stone, and the bounty hunters, Rocket and Groot, were trying to catch Peter for reward. They were caught and prisoned by the Nova Crops, military force of Xandar, because of violence. They met Drax in the prison, and later they decided to team up to protect the infinity stone from Ronan. Star Wars is a science fiction adventure novel. The symbolism and characterization was really excellent in the story. The story gives a great look into the future as it has many different types of things we have not yet invented; blaster rifles, space ships that go the speed of light, fat alien slugs, and beam swords. The plot of the story sucks you into the novel and makes you want to continue reading the novel.
In the movie trailer for Holes you can generally see the three rhetorical devices, which make the trailer effective. These are fairly noticeable in the movie trailer, some more so than others. While the message they are getting across is quite obvious, the speaker aspect of it is not quite as obvious. The speaker in the trailer uses an enthusiastic voice to show the audience, which is generally young kids or people who like mystery, that it is a movie with plenty of excitement. While they go through it the speaker gets more enthusiastic, and the music for the trailer also becomes more upbeat. The speaker also mentions that the movie is based off of an award-winning book, most likely because it might broaden the age group for the audience.
My analysis is on the film The Goonies. While I view the movie and determine the various norms, behaviors, roles and interaction between group members, as well as individuals the examination within the realm of film can present many of the same components. Thus, our group selected this movie to analyze based on its formation of a cohesive problem-solving group full of unforgettable characters. The Goonies portray many different theories and aspects of small group communication.
There were images and videos of African Americans being enslaved, boycotting during the civil rights movement, and modern day incarceration. That alone creates a very emotional feeling. What drives it homes is the strong voice of Rag’n’Bone Man in the back singing “I’m only human”. I know these young African American boys feel like they are only human, so why are the being treated so differently? The trailer really makes you think in the end because it created all these strong feelings inside.
Menace II Society, a film about a young Black man who has lived the “hustler” lifestyle and is struggling to leave it, is a perfect example of deviance as the main character, Caine Lawson, and the characters around him violate many of society’s norms. Throughout the film, the characters swear incessantly, carry around guns and drugs as most people would carry around cell phones, commit street crimes, especially burglary and mugging, on a regular basis, and beat and kill people unscrupulously. The following quote captures just how deviant Caine and the other characters in this film were, “[Caine] went into the store just to get a beer. Came out an accessory to murder and armed robbery. It's funny like that in the hood sometimes. You never knew what was gonna happen, or when” (Albert Hughes). Why would Caine consider these crimes “funny”, or rather, so insignificant? What caused Caine to become so deviant? The answers to such questions were woven into the plot of the film and will be discussed in the following paragraphs.
The trailer released for the film followed suit, flashing images of violence, guns, and heart-throb Leonardo DeCaprio, in order to grab the attention of the audience. In most cases, people do not realize that behind these scenes lies subliminally transmitted emotion. Through the instrumentation that guides the trailer, the audience’s perceptions of the juxtaposed images are altered. By changing this music, one can change the tone of the entire trailer.
In this trailer it shows lots of different camera angles such as over head shots zoom in shots etc. their lighting is very bright and colourful, although when something bad is happening like when the dragon tries to burn them at the beginning it was dark and gloomy. The sound effects included screaming and the dragon roaring. The music was very cheery and groovy once you got to the middle of the trailer but at the beginning it was slow. They used slow motion to attract the audience.
J.R.R. Tolkien's concept of too much power is summed up by Lord Acton when he once said, "Power corrupts, but absolute power corrupts absolutely." In Tolkien's first book of his fantasy based trilogy, Lord of the Rings, the Fellowship of the Rings tells a story of a quest to destroy a powerful ring throughout Tolkien's created "Middle Earth". This quest was headed by a "Hobbit" named Frodo Baggins who, in the end, becomes corrupted by power himself. This corruption begins when Frodo uses his ring to become invisible over and over again to escape certain situations. The quest to destroy the powerful "Ruling Ring" forms the basis for this story.
In the anime, Attack on Titan, the director is able to create and blend different master plots: vengeance by visual editing that places flashbacks at important moments inside the story and camera angles; hero’s quest by visual cuts and transitions from different character points of view; underdog by changing camera angles. Finally, but not least temptation through the use of sound editing with actions scenery and coloring. Narrative elements used by the director inside a film can change the master plot at any critical moment inside a story, elaborating a different story that can vary depending on our way of interpreting and analyzing the world around us. The director may have a general message that he wants to convey through narrative elements as it was previously stated, but we as the audience have the last word in what the film represents even though we obtain the main idea through the manipulation of the narrative elements used by the director.
The characters of the book reside in present day Indiana. The main characters Hazel and Augustus are two teenagers who both live in Indianapolis in average homes with their families. Hazel spends a lot of time in the hospital and her house due to her cancer. She meets Augustus at a support group in her church and they start spending a lot of time together. Hazel shared her favorite book with Augustus and this book stops mid-sentence with no ending. They both love the book and contacted the author who lives in Amsterdam for answers about how the story ends. The author of this book, Peter Van Houten denies giving them any information because he does not trust that Hazel and Augustus wouldn’t just share it on the internet or record the telephone call. Peter Van Houten says he would only tell them in person. It becomes Hazel’s dream to go Amsterdam which is where Van Houten lives. Augustus uses his one “wish”, from the Genie foundation (which grants wishes to kids with cancer) for him and Hazel to go to Amsterdam. On the plane to Amsterdam, Augustus tells Hazel that he is in love with her. Amsterdam is described as being picture perfect and the opposite of their hometown. I think that the characters felt confined and limited in Indiana but were set free in Amsterdam. In Amsterdam they finally speak to Van Houten, who was an extreme disappointment to them, visit tourist sites and have dinner by the canal. The major climax occurs in Amsterdam when Augustus reveals to Hazel that his cancer has returned and is going to kill him.
As an audience we are manipulated from the moment a film begins. In this essay I wish to explore how The Conversation’s use of sound design has directly controlled our perceptions and emotional responses as well as how it can change the meaning of the image. I would also like to discover how the soundtrack guides the audience’s attention with the use of diegetic and nondiegetic sounds.
We all have heard of Spider Man. He was the average teenager until he was bitten by a radioactive spider. I like Spider Man but I believe there are a lot of things missing in his movies. The police and government are portrayed poorly, as to assisting Spider Man or lack there of. Spider Man goes about doing his own thing, outside of the law. He is something we can all relate to and I believe that is why a lot of people like him. Most people would say they want to be like Spider Man because of his cool super human powers. I believe it would be a lot of hard work, dedication, and a lot of responsibility. Think about this, you would have two lives to live as a completely different person. You would have to keep up good grades, make some money to live on, support your family in one life, then save people, fight crime, and kill villains in the other life. It would be way to overwhelming for me.
... of The Amazing Spider-man 2 would say that this film has a number of defects. There are Gwen’s death, unsatisfactory ending, and even insufficient storylines. I should agree that this film needs more efforts on the detail parts. However, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was abundant and technically magnificent production for me, in many ways. As I mentioned above, Gwen’s death part gave the audiences many meanings to think about heroic movies critically, and the actors’ movements were fantastic enough. The computer-generated special effects of this film director were spectacularly real when Spider-Man dangled from a tower shelf or swings through New York City. I could feel excessive joy, and Additionally, the scene where Electro appeared Times Square was masterful in drawing the audiences’ attention as well. I hope to watch the next movie as a big fan of the Spider-man.
...n, the use of sound in films is highly significant in the development of the plot and in turn the development of the theme. Although, the sound components play a very significant role individually, it is through the combination and manipulation of such components that the sound design of the sound track has a greater impact emotionally upon the audience. Moreover, the effectiveness of this emotional impact can be significantly increased through the implementation of an effective combination sound to the image. Such combination can be seen within Gravity which exhibits a soundscape that successfully assist in bringing the world of the film to life. Sound is important to films and is an essential feature, many a time an audience will not even self-consciously acknowledge the music or sound effects but if they weren’t there the viewing pleasure would not be as pleasing
