Group Observation Paper

I decided to observe five different groups for this paper. I chose rednecks, burnouts, two different groups of athletes, and musicians. These observations were mostly made at school in the hallways, classrooms, lunch, or in the parking lot. All of the groups were easily observable, they just had to be done at different times throughout the day. The rednecks for example were more easily observable in the school parking lot, whereas the athletes were more observable in the hallways. Issues that seem to be important in determining status in our school would be money, how you dress, where you live, how you act, how smart you are, and what activities you're usually involved in. A person gets placed into a particular status when he or she falls into one or more of the issues listed above. I thought this would be a good way to show that even if you're an athlete or classified as any other group it doesn't necessarily mean that's how everyone acts. Now within this group of athletes, it seems to be important to them just to be there and have fun. Yes they all work hard, but they also choose to not stress about sports or even school. Characteristics shared within the group are similar to the other group of athletes that I described such as name brand clothes or shoes. Some members though also interact with the rednecks so they sometimes wear different clothing items. This group of athletes though doesn't worry about having to be a with their group members at certain events, or being in the same classes. Also, when sitting in class I'd hear them talking about almost anything. Something that I heard in particular one day was, “Did you just see that bottle flip?” Everyone seems to be relatively close friends within the group so there's no need for a leader or even
