Although my cousin is still really young, my aunt still worries about what will happen to her when she can no longer take care of her. A group home would be a good option to look into when my cousin becomes an adult because it will allow her to learn how to live on her own. One of the speakers in the meeting suggested that the men with autism should just be put in suite rooms in a hospital. However, group homes would be a better option for some families because they allow people with disabilities to try to live in an environment that feels more like a home and that allows to be more social. The other objection that is misguided about group homes is that they will permanently damage neighborhoods. This claim is also a little over exaggerated because a group home only houses a few people with mental disabilities so that they can focus all of their attention on those individuals.
