Decision-making is a process through which choices are made from desirable alternatives, regarded a cognitive process that results in the choosing of a course of action or belief from a variety of alternative possibilities. A decision is made based on the preferences and values of the person or group making the decision. The process should produce a final choice that could in fact be a call to action or not. In making a decision we engage a thought process that weighs up the negative and positive outcomes of each of the possible options available to us, for this process to be effective we need to be able to forecast the possible outcomes of each available option and after completion of this process choose the best outcome for a particular situation. …show more content…

Individual members of the group bring with them different perceptions and thus offering a broader perspective to be considered. The course of action to be taken after the decision is made is enhances due to the collective understanding Greater commitment to decisions made as all members of the group have contributed to the decision made. Individual decision-making in comparison to group decision-making saves time, money and energy as individuals make prompt and logical decisions generally. Individual decisions are deemed to be more focused and rational as compared to group. (Kokemuller n.d) Disadvantages of Individual Decision Making Groups could have the ability and means to collect more and full information than individuals that could help the group make a better more informed decision. Individuals make decisions using their own intuition, views or perceptions as opposed to a broader perspective that could be offered by a group making a decision and this could result in a better decision making that with individuals. An individual will not take into consideration every members interest as the decision, whereas the very nature of group decision-making will take into account interest of all members of an organization.
