In my opinion this type of qualitative tradition falls under the Grounded Theory. According to Polit and Beck (2014), “Grounded theory tries to account for people's actions from the perspective of those involved. The goal of grounded theory is to discover the main concern and the basic social processes that explains how people resolve it” (p. 272). In essence the ground theories approach to qualitative research is to discover social-psychological processes of those actually experiencing the phenomenon.

Investigated the parental response of parents of drug abusing teens; six informants; journals, observations, and interviews.

In my opinion this study falls under the theory of Ethnography. According to Polit and Beck (2014), “Ethnography is a type of qualitative inquiry that involves the description and interpretation of a culture and cultural behavior. Culture refers to the way a group of people live--- the patterns of human activity and the symbolic structures (for example, the values and norms) that give such activity significance” (p. 268). Therefore the goal of this theory is to learn about a culture from the people who actually live in that culture. The topics appropriate to phenomenology are ones that are fundamental to the life experiences of humans, such as the meaning of humans, such as the meaning of suffering or the quality of life with chronic pain” (p. 270).
