Walking into the Grieb Theatre with both skepticism and little knowledge of the play that I was about to see, I exited with a little connection to some of the actors and a sense of mild disappointment from the play, although I thought to myself how difficult it must have been for the actors and the director to constantly feel the pressure about bringing up a topic of racism and discrimination to the community audience. The play “Greensboro: A Requiem” directed by Sue Freitag tells us a story of the Ku Klux Klan and American Nazi Party of which whom assaulted the Communist Worker’s Party during the rally in Greensboro, North Carolina which killed five of the protesters and injuring nine others involved. Although much of the protest was captured on film, the shooters were not convicted. Play Production brings this frightening story to El Camino Real Charter High School through Emily Mann’s documentary play. Greensboro: A Requiem addresses themes that America still struggles with today’s society. Nervous to see the play, I was pleasantly surprised with the opening song of the show. The wondering of the blue-dressed choir opens up the play while explaining to us the premise of the Greensboro incident. This first scene immediately sets up the mood for the entire play. Although I found some of the following scenes to be dull due to whereas that there was a lot of talking but considering the fact that these scenes are important part of the play, I just wished they …show more content…

I would not recommend this play for children, but I would highly recommend this play for teenagers and young adults. I believe that this play will connect well with those who are suffering the chains of society. With a dreadful connection to the real world, along with the few racial lines. This play has a wonderful balance between humiliation and tragedy, which will leave anyone leaving the theater talking about it for
