The Great Depression of 1929 effected not only the United States but foreign countries as well. It occurred because of the stock market crash and a drop in global trade, due to high taxes. From there on, there were programs put in place to help with the growth of the economy to come. The Depression caused a great toll on the human race. People lost their jobs, homes, and land. Children had poor diets. No money for health care. Not only was starvation an issue but people also suffered from physical and mental stress. The drought also had an effect on people and their land. The economic catastrophe and its impact defied the description of the grim words that described the Great Depression. This was a severe blow to the United States economy. President Roosevelt’s New Deal is what helped reshape the economy and even the structure of the United States. The programs that the New Deal had helped employ and gave financial security to several Americans. The New Deals programs would prove to be effective and beneficial to the American society.

The New Deal was President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s response to the great Depression during the 1930’s and the term came about during his campaign for presidency. This changed the way the federal government functions. It was proposed by FDR as the right of the people to make a comfortable living provided by the government. It was passed by Congress to be a set of government programs meant to fix the Great Depression and prevent another depression from occurring. Within the first one hundred days of his Presidency, President Roosevelt passed many pieces of legislation that created jobs, welfare payments, and created the NRA, which is where business leaders and government organizers worked together to establish industry standards of production,
The New Deal was a set of acts that effectively gave Americans a new sense of hope after the Great Depression. The New Deal advocated for women’s rights, worked towards ending discrimination in the workplace, offered various jobs to African Americans, and employed millions through new relief programs. Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR) made it his duty to ensure that something was being done. This helped restore the public's confidence and showed that relief was possible. The New Deal helped serve America’s interests, specifically helping women, African Americans, and the unemployed and proved to them that something was being done to help them.
The Great Depression of the 1930’s set employment back for both men and women. Because of the Roaring Twenties, the nation’s total wealth doubled causing everyone to put money into the stock market. While most economical branches were soaring, the agriculture branch was struggling and the banks had to access immense loans which were not able to be liquidated. Nervous stock investors began to trade shares which resulted in 16 million shares which ruined thenect decade for most. A few lucky people were actually able to keep their jobs, however, many many people lost theirs. Since people were now without jobs, paying for food became a major difficulty. These programs were a series of government funded projects that lowered unemployment, strengthened the value of the dollar, and kept money in circulation. The purpose of the New Deal programs were the 3 R’s; relief, recovery, and reform. Direct relief and economic recovery were the short term goals and financial reform was the long term goal of the New Deal programs. (Big Tent Democract) The New Deal programs did reach some of their short term goals, but did not ever reach the long term goal of financial reform. Roosevelt’s New Deal did not improve America’s economy as many people believe. In fact, the New Deal has harmed America in the long run.
Each of these aspects apply to different people and are funded by different groups. The New Deal occurred in 1933, when 13 million American workers lost their jobs. As a result of the massive job loss, thousands of workers demanded union recognition, unemployed Americans demanded food and shelter, and farmers demanded higher processing of their goods. Federally funded jobs and social welfare programs to help the poor were set up by President Roosevelt in order to please the demands of the American people.

Great Depression was one of the most severe economic situation the world had ever seen. It all started during late 1929 and lasted till 1939. Although, the origin of depression was United Sattes but with US Economy being highly correlated with global economy, the ill efffects were seen in the whole world with high unemployment, low production and deflation. Overall it was the most severe depression ever faced by western industrialized world. Stock Market Crashes, Bank Failures and a lot more, left the governments ineffective and this lead the global economy to what we call today- ‘’Great Depression’’.(Rockoff).
