The human mind is an important part of the human body. The mind slows down as people age. Lack of education, physical activity, and sleep are reasons why the mind slows down. However, the brain has more secrets to discover.

Gray matter forms a thin, outer layer of the brain, which is called the cortex. The cortex stores all the processes of thought and memory. The volume of gray matter in the cortex increases and then decreases over the years of childhood. The decrease in volume is typical for this age. It is also an essential part of maturation. (National Institute of Mental Health, 2011). For many years, it was tested that the volume of gray matter was the highest during the early years of childhood, and sequentially fell as the child grew. As people age, their brain slows down. Older individuals have a harder time remembering things than younger people. Younger individuals are able to remember more things and store more new things than older people. People who have a lack of nutrition, physical activity, exercise, education, and sleep have a problem with memory loss. Older people who have a healthy brain can recover information very well. However, they do not recover information as quickly as younger people. Having reserve is important because the more reserve someone has, the more stresses or injuries they could handle. Exercising regularly, exploring into new learning, and making positive social connections are some ways to increase reserve. It is important to take care of your brain to have a magnificent mind. Gray matter is made up of neurons and support cells. Processes of thought and memory are stored in the cortex. Genes, experiences, and the environment play an important role in the development of the human brain.
