Music is universal. Everyone either loves music or they absolutely hate it. There are many different music genres. There is Rock, J-pop, Folk, R&B, Contemporary, Rap / Hip Hop, Reggae, Jazz, Gospel, Classical, K-pop, World (music from certain places. Example Afro, is from Africa), Dubstep, etc. There are different artists / songs that fit into each genre. For example, in Rap / Hip Hop there is Drake, Kendrick Lamar, and Kanye West. In Pop, you would find Meghan Trainor, Ariana Grande, and Taylor Swift. In Afro, you would find artists such as Davido, Tekno, Fuse ODG, and Shatta Wale. Gospel emerged in the mid 1800s. It has been around for about 200 centuries. Gospel has no particular age group. Gospel is universal. It is sung in different languages. Anyone who listens to it notices it's flowing rhythm and how it is not restricted. Gospel never sounds old. Every time it is played, it sounds as if it were made just yesterday. Gospel music uplifts your soul and puts you in a better mood. There are many different types of Gospel music. There is Contemporary Gospel, Southern Gospel, Traditional Gospel, etc. You can go a concert anywhere in the world to hear Gospel. For example, there was a Heritage Of Gospel Concert at Bloemfontein City Hall, Bloemfontein in South Africa on Sunday, September 24, 2017. There will also be a Black Nativity 2017 Holiday Gospel Concert by St. Albans Congregational Church on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at 172-17 Linden Boulevard, Queens, NY 11434. Even though you can listen to gospel music at home, it is better to go to a concert. Going to a concert makes the music better. When you are around all those people, you can feel the happiness and energy of the people around you. Pop is listened to by everyone regardless of age, sex, religion, and race. People who listen to Pop can relate towards the music. Pop songs are usually 3 minutes and the songs are upbeat and catchy. Additionally, Pop is the number one genre that is played everywhere. It’s on the radio, tv, in the grocery store you shop and it blass from the car that passes you on street on your way to work or to school. Happy by Pharrell Williams would be an example of this. This song got stuck in the heads of everyone who has ever heard it, parent or child. This is a valid point but Gospel is not only for religious people. Gospel songs can be catchy and upbeat but they are not listened to as publicly as pop songs. Having a religious connection to the music can help you feel the music and the words and the meaning behind the words more but that it usually not the case. Most most pop songs are typically about breakups, alcohol, and cheating. Many people can relate to that but not all. Gospel has meaning to it. Horatio G.
