The Metell company made a toy called “Goodbye Fears Monsters”, the toy is designed to listen and respond to young children who have trouble falling asleep at night. The toy will interact with young children by allowing them to share their fears with them, that they might not feel comfortable sharing with anyone else, the GFM then assures them their fears will be eaten. The GFM will then record what the child shares and the recordings will be sent directly to the child’s parents via an app. The Metell company also promises to share the recordings, at no cost with child psychology researchers. Implications for personal integrity and character: Their unethical decision may not reflect their personal character, but with the alternative options they have many opportunities to invent a practical toy that can give customers an option. Action/ Decision From the alternatives listed before, I believe the best recommendation is the first option. The GFM’s can either say a poem, sing a song or recite a prayer, the microphone should not be designed to record the child but instead it should be programmed to make the child repeat the song, poem or prayer until the child is not scared anymore. This will make supply and labor easier since the technology would not be as complexed as before. This recommendation will change the GFM product completely, but it can attract more customers to the product which will bring in more cash flow. This decision will be a justice one because it will impose and enforce rules impartially and it will still be equitable of benefits and costs. The GFM’s can also provide customers with three options to sing, pray or say a poem. The names can also be changed to “Goodbye Fears Prayer Monster”, “Goodbye Fears Poetic Monster” and “Goodbye Fears Singing Monster”. The monsters can also be color coordinated so customers can tell them apart easily. My recommendation can bring in more customers from every cultural background without causing an ethical
